Ava
What do you think of Ava for a girl?Cute and charming or overdone and (celebrity) trendy?I used to like it, not a lot, but I liked it. Then it was suddenly everywhere and I got so bored of it. The exact same thing happened with Ella. However I'm really starting to like Ella and Ava again, though I wouldn't use them at the moment. I just really like the way Ava looks. The V just looks so perfect in between the As especially spelled with capital letters as in AVA (does this make any sense? :P).How many little Avas do you know? Do you see a tiny chance of it losing popularity anytime soon?I also love Ada. Which is best Ada or Adelaida nn Ada (I love both Ada and Adelaida and this way I can use both of them)?Ada or Ava?Aviva or Ava?Aviva or Ada?

It's very popular, but I still think it's lovely.:)

yawnOverused and will become very dated. Ada is better.

Ick.Ava sounds just plain awkward to me...I think Eve sounds and looks much, much prettier. Ada still sounds awkward to me, but not as bad. Aviva is gorgeous, though!Um, and ditto Laurenzia...Ava is not really a timeless classic. It's terribly trendy.

I like the sound of Ava. But I think it's been pretty much ruined by its popularity, for me at least. I'd use Eva though, pronounced quite similar to Ava ;o).Lea

I like it. I "discovered" it way back when before it was popular because of Ava Gardner, so I thought it had a cool, sophisticated, silver-screen sort of feel. Despite the trendiness in recent times, I still feel that way about it. I'd consider using it if it weren't so dang popular!I don't think I actually know any baby Avas personally, but I've seen several in local BAs.I love Ada too! It has such a wonderful Southern Belle feel to it. I like it on its own, but it could definitely work as a nn for Adelaida or Adelaide. It's so hard to choose between them... I might go with Ada over Ava. And I'd pick Ava and Ada over Aviva any day.

I love Ava, but it is still too popular for me to take the name seriously. It slipped from #4 in 2007 to #6 in 2008 though, so it might slowly decline in popularity.I personally don't know any Avas.

It's fine, a nice enough name, but it's just so incredibly popular. However if that doesn't bother you, then I say go ahead and use it. I like Ada a lot! But for some reason it feels incomplete to me, even though Ava doesn't? I don't really like Adelaida though, how about Adelaide?

Go with Adelaida or Ada or even Adah. Ava, while beautiful, is totally overused. I know about 23 Avas, all born during or after 2004. Seriously.I don't see it falling off popularity charts any time soon because it also has that frilly elegant classical edge.

It's more than celeb trendy at this points; it's been blazing up the charts with commonfolk for quite some time now. I'm not a fan of Ava myself, but if you want to use it, I don't see a logical reason why you shouldn't. Just because it's popular doesn't mean you loose any namenerd cred (in my opinion at least). As long as you don't pair it with Elizabeth, Grace, or Emily. ;)

I only know one Ava, I think it's a nice name but a little boring, and I don't like how people consider it "trendy" and that it has only become a name in recent years. Ava Gardner, anyone? A classic beauty. Ava is a not a "new" name.

Actually, no (m) +http://www.babynamewizard.com/archives/2006/10/antique-or-forgeryhttp://www.behindthename.com/top/search.php?extra=p&terms=ava&submit=GoETA, because I didn't answer the original post.I don't like Ava, very celeb-trendy. I don't like Aviva either, it's like you are trying to dress Ava up and make her not seem trendy.Adelaida NN Ada is a nice option though.

Ava is "clasically trendy"... like Grace. Sure, it's been around for a while, but honestly- were there a plethora of them in the seventies and eighties? Not really. Same could have been said for Jessica and Amanda twenty years ago.

Very true. You cannot deny the sudden upswing of the name in recent years.

So overused..almost everyone likes Ava, hence, there are gazillions of them.I really like Ada, it's lovely. As for Adelaida, I'm not sure. Most people seem to pronounce it Adelaide with an 'a' on the end, but if it's Spanish wouldn't it be pronounced 'ah-DEL-ah-EE-dah' or something like that?

Ava is nice enough. I'm sure I would like it more if it weren't so popular. If it weren't popular I would probably say that it's simple and elegant. I really like Ava as a nickname in Avaline and Avalon. Ella is pretty too, though I prefer Ela. Ada is really nice and for me has that "cool oldfashioned" feeling. I prefer Ada to Adelaida, but I think Ada makes a great nickname for it.Can I choose both? It really depends on what you're going for.Aviva nn Ava? Ok.... AvaAda

Incredibly boring. It's like water; it's alright, but there's no taste to it.I like Ada a smidge better because it's that little bit less celeb-trendy, then Adelaida a bit more (although it seems a bit OTT), and Aviva is the top choice here.
