I always used to think it sounded girly as Leanda was one of my faves for a girl. But after hearing it as a male name in Shakespeare I like it for a boy. And I think softer boys names are back in style e.g. Gabriel.

You know! I had a really intense dream about the name Leander a few nights ago. My mother was going to have a son, and she was trying to pick out a name by looking at these bricks that represented the british SSA lists for some reason. She was thinking Leander from the beginning, but she was considering these:Leander
Evander
Tristan
Dorian
Alistairthat kind of thing. But she decided on Leander. And this was my opinion in the dream:I didn't really like it - kitschy, I thought - but I was really excited that someone was going to use it, and that I'd have a brother named Leander, I mean honestly, Sarah, Emma, Anna, and then Leander, and I was really excited at the prospect of calling him Leo. And then I asked her if I could choose his middle name, and she knew I was a namenerd so she said Yes, and I got really excited, and spent a good portion of the rest of the dream compiling a list of combos astonishingly similar to what I think I would have compiled in real life.
Anyway, it came down to these:
Leander Constantine
Leander Rex (in my dream the r R didn't bother me)
Leander Robert (family name)
Leander Mount (family name)So yeah. Anyway yeah I don't think it's too girly.

I love Leander. It's in my top ten for boys.I think it's completely masculine - nothing girly about it at all!

I love Leander. I don't think it's girly at all. "Leo" would be a nice nickname.

I love Leander! I think it's very handsome. I started a post about it recently. If I use it, I would use Leo as a nn.

How does it sound "girly"? The name contains the Greek word for man/manly!

I just thought since it starts off with Leanne, some people might think it sounded girly.
