Walter
What do you think of it? I've really loved this name for awhile, but thought I'd ask about it because yesterday at an amusement park I heard a mother call her toddler Walter. I was quite happy about it! I just think it's such a strong, intelligent name. My favorite combo with it is Walter Feidhlim, although I like it reversed even more. And for the record, other names I heard yesterday on little kids were Lawrence (I think that's what she said), Memphis (f), and Isabella (first time I've heard it-- hearing it outloud confirmed my feelings of how sickeningly princessy it is).

I've always loved it too. Yay for little Walter! Also yay for little Lawrence.

I love Walter. It's one of my favorite male names.I never gave the name any thought until the first time I read the Anne of Green Gables series/books (which was a loooong time ago). Walter is one of Anne's sons and is one of my favorite characters in the series. He helped me grow to love the name.

I have a soft spot for Walter. It's such a gentle name, but very masculine, too, in my mind. I like Walter Feidhlim, the reverse, not so much. Feidhlim is very cool, never seen it before. Walter has the same sort of charm that Warren has for me. Walt is also a great nn.Every time I hear Isabella I feel a little nauseous! I'm fine with Isabel or Isabel, but Isabella drives me nuts as a fn!

I love it, I sometimes shortlist it. I bet it's really cute on a toddler.

I love, love, love Walter! There's a classic charm to it - it's certainly a name I would use, but probably 'only' as a mn.

I guess its fine, a little dated though. Valter looks younger to me and less dated, and it is also the spelling I'm most used to. And I actually like Isabella, but I can't stand the nn Bella

I know of a toddler Walter, though I've never met either him or his parents. My daughter is friends with his mother on a mommies message board. He was born the same month and year as my grandson, January 2008.I know it's my age (sigh), but Walter is the ultimate fuddy-duddy old-man-with-shorts-and-high-socks-and-wearing-a-polyester-shirt-with-golf-clubs-on-it name to me. I couldn't believe it when my daughter told me that this woman named her baby Walter. I asked, "Is that a family name?" My daughter replied, "No, she just likes the name" and then I said, "What?! You're kidding!"Maybe, as evidenced by the fact that you've seen another toddler Walter, it's becoming popular. I guess it's just the cycle of things, but I think that people in my age group will just never get how Walter can seem attractive. Younger people will just roll their eyes at us.Since you mention Isabella and how sickeningly princessy it is to you, I will restate, (though I have recently already mentioned it) that Isabella is anything but that to me. It's heavy and clunky. If it *were* princessy to me, I think I'd love it, since I tend to like princessy names.

It reminds me of the little boy from Changeling. It's not my favorite, and I definitely wouldn't use it, but it's not awful. As long as the nn Wally/Wallie is not used, I'm perfectly fine with the name. Lawrence is cute.
