Which is your favorite spelling of these names and why?HAY-lee - Hailey. It looks the best to me. I also like Hayley, but it's kind of heavy on the Y's. Haley is decent, but it seems more likely to be mispronounced. I knew a Haley who was called Hallie by mistake.
KAY-lee - Kaylee. It's straightforward and looks decent.
CAR-lee - Carly or Carlie. I think I prefer Carlie, but I'm not entirely sure. Carly and Carlie are both straightforward and don't look super trendy like Karleigh.
KATE-linn - Caitlin, I think, but I like Kaitlyn and Caitlyn as well. Caitlin isn't as trendy looking, but I don't mind some of the other spellings. I can't stand spellings like Kaytlynn, though.
KAY-linn - Kaylin. I also like Kaylen. Neither is over the top looking.
AL-i-sen - Allison. It looks more balanced than Alison.
JAY-den - Jayden.
KAY-den - Caden (male) or Kayden (female).
HAY-den - Hayden.
AY-den - Aidan.
KATH-rinn - Katherine or Kathryn. I'm not a big fan of the name in general, though.
bree-ANN-a - Brianna.
ZO-ee - Zoe.
Mak-AY-la - Micaela followed by Mikaela. Michaela is okay, but it looks more cluttered than the other two.
MAD-eh-linn - Madeline. I also like Madelyn. I prefer Madeleine to both, but I pronounce it slightly differently.

Which is your favorite spelling of these names and why?HAY-lee- Hayley. I looks the most original to me. It also reminds me of Hayley Mills.
KAY-lee- Kaylie. My best friend (who is almost 27) is named Kaylie. She was supposed to be Katie, but her mom heard "KAY-lee" on TV a few days before she was born and she chose to spell it that way.
CAR-lee- Carly. It's the least made up.
KATE-linn- Caitlin, it's original.
KAY-linn- Kaylin, I guess.
AL-i-sen- Allison. I don't like it with one "l". It look incomplete to me that way.
JAY-den- Jayden. It looks the least made up.
KAY-den- Caden. It's the spelling I always picture first when I hear it.
HAY-den- Hayden, the original.
AY-den- Aidan, because it's the original.
KATH-rinn- Katherine, which is the spelling I've seen the most.
bree-ANN-a- Brianna, any other spelling makes me initially pronounce it differently.
ZO-ee- Zoey. I know it's not the original, but I really like how it looks with a 'y'.
Mak-AY-la- Michaela, it's the original.
MAD-eh-linn- Madeline. It's the original and the top name that my boyfriend and I agree upon.Which other spellings of these names do you find tolerable?HAY-lee- Hailey.
KAY-lee- Kaylee because I'm used to seeing it, but I dislike it.
CAR-lee- None.
KATE-linn- I don't mind Katelyn.
KAY-linn- I've never really thought about this name before. When I was a kid, I went to school with a boy named Calen, I guess that looks normal to me.

Favorite spellings: I tend to go for simple, classic ones, not kreatyve. I don't like extraneous letters (Katelynn or Jayden) unless they are typical, classic parts of how the name is spelled (as in Hayden - the y belongs there somehow). When in doubt, concise is better than elaborate. Stars indicate names I actually like.*HAY-lee - Haley, Hailey
*KAY-lee - Cailey, Kaylie
CAR-lee - Carly. Carlie is ok, but sort of pointless.
*KATE-linn - Caitlin, Kaitlyn. (I've known a Catelyn and a Kaitlyn). If you're going off the path of the classic Irish origin, might as well go all the way with Kaitlyn or Katelyn.
KAY-linn - Cailin
AL-i-sen - Allyson, Allison, Alison are all ok - they're all pretty common.
JAY-den - Jaden (not a fan, way too trendy)
KAY-den - Caden, Caiden (better than Jaden but not by much)
HAY-den - Hayden
*AY-den - Aiden, Aidan
KATH-rinn - Catherine, Katherine, Kathryn (same situation as Allison).
bree-ANN-a - Brianna, Breanna
*ZO-ee - Zoe
*Mak-AY-la - Makayla, Michaela (i much prefer this version, i'd never do Makayla, but it doesn't bug me as much as some respellings).
MAD-eh-linn - Madelyn. Anything else would be pronounced like the girl from the old house in Paris that was covered with vines, if you know what i mean.

Which is your favorite spelling of these names and why? Which spellings do you find tolerable?
HAY-lee – Hayley
KAY-lee – Kaylee although it’s really more of a sound than a name.
CAR-lee – Carly, Karly is also fine.
KATE-linn – Caitlin.
KAY-linn – Cailin. Well, at least that’s how the word is spelled.
AL-i-sen – Alison
JAY-den – Jaden
KAY-den – Kaiden
HAY-den – Hayden
AY-den – Aidan, or Aodhan.
KATH-rinn – Katherine, Catherine.
bree-ANN-a – Briana, I don’t really mind Breanna either.
ZO-ee – Zoe
Mak-AY-la – Michaela
MAD-eh-linn – Madeline. Madelyn is alright. If you met anyone with these names, how would you assume they were spelled?
Hayley
Kaylee
Carly/Karly
I went to school with a ton of Caitlins spelled a multitude of ways. Mainly Caitlin, Kaitlin, Katelyn.
Kaylinn probably.
Alison or Allison.
JAY-den, KAY-den, HAY-den and AY-den all have some many spellings I wouldn’t even begin to assume.
Catherine or Katherine
Breanna
Zoe or Zoey
Again, this has so many different spellings now.
Madeline, Madelyn.

MadeleineThe above is how I'd assume a person's name would be spelled, but maybe Michaela not Mikaela.I find Madeline, Breanna, Katherine, Kathryn, Katheryn, Cathryn, etc., Carlie, Kayley, Haylie, Katelyn and Haydn tolerable.I really hate spellings like Makayla/Mikayla, I hate any spelling of Kayden or Jayden because I hate those names, I hate Zooey and Zoey and Zoe with a umlaut on the E if the bearer is from an anglophone country. I don't really like Katharine or Catharine because I always go to pronounce them differently. I hate Allyson. People I know:HAY-lee - 2 aged 13 and 15

I'll lump my favorites and other opinions together:on the whole, i prefer "traditional" American/English spellings.
(I don't know a lot of spellings from other places, but I'm interested in knowing what are typical spellings elsewhere in the world! and also other typical pronunciation variations or forms of the names)here goes:HAY-lee Hayley or Hailey. Hayleigh is my 3rd choice. Hailie and Haillie remind me too much of Halle or Halley's comet. hence, i also do not like it when people use Halley but pron. it like hay-lee.
KAY-lee Kaylie - Kaleigh looks too much like it could be pron. Kahl-ee (rhymes with Halle) Kaylee looks too little-girlish
CAR-lee Carly, prob. Carlie is ok, but looks too much like Charlie or Carlin. Carley looks strange to me and also too much like Charley.
KATE-linn Caitlin. I like it "traditional" The other spellings mostly look contrived or too kiddish. Kaitlyn or Catelyn would be my second choices.
KAY-linn Kaylin or Cailin. Kaylin is the best for pronouncing it. (or Kaylinn) i think any spelling has too many possible pron. issues - Kailin or Kailynn could be thought to be pron. KIE-lin. Kalynn could also be thought to be Kah-linn (rhymes with Fallon)
AL-i-sen Allyson. I don't like the name Alice, so Alison and Allison remind me of it. I also think they look boring. Alyson is okay, but looks a bit odd.
JAY-den Jaden on a boy.
KAY-den Kayden i guess. Kaiden is alright, but both look a bit contrived. which they are, i suppose.
HAY-den Hayden. boy only.
AY-den Toss up b/w Aidan and Aiden. probably Aidan is my fav. Aden is alright too, and Ayden doesn't quite make me gag. Don't like Adin.
KATH-rinn Catherine or Katharine. Kathryn is okay i guess.
bree-ANN-a Bryanna
ZO-ee Zoe
Mak-AY-la Michaela. only. the rest look like they're trying too hard.
MAD-eh-linn Madeleine. but I like Madeline if it's pron. mad-eh-LINE. Madelaine is okay if someone really wants to pronounce it that way. I know in some places that's how Madeleine or Madelein are pron., so I think it's good to nudge people in that direction by spelling it Madelaine. I don't like Madelayne though. i hate maddelynn, maddylin, Maddilayne etc.

HAY-lee - Hayley, no strings attached, with the final "y" for symmetry. And isn't that the original?
KAY-lee - Kayley, see above.
CAR-lee - Carly, once again, it's obvious.
KATE-linn - Caitlin I guess, but I'm not surprised or bothered by Caitlyns or Catelyns
KAY-linn - I don't know, Kaylin? It's trendeigh enough to get away with that spelling.
AL-i-sen - Allison. Alison bothers me, maybe because it looks like a last name?
*AY-den - Aidan by itself, *ayden with other letters. You don't need to make *AY-den complicated.
KATH-rinn - C/Katherine, C/Kathryn is lazy.
bree-ANN-a - Brianna
ZO-ee - Zoe with the dots, but if you must... Zoey
Mak-AY-la - I know a lot of people would rather have Michaela, but Mikayla is fine. See "KAY-linn" above.
MAD-eh-linn - Madelyn. Madeline is MAD-eh-LIEN

Approximate age? Siblings?
Multiples of every one in various ages except Kay Lynn. The closest I've come to that is Kayleen. Do you like any of them? Would you use them?
I love Catherine, which I'd use, and Alison, which is my name. I like Hayden, Aidan, Caitlin, Zoe, Briana (bree-AH-na), Michaela, and Madeleine, but not enough to use them as first names. Preferred spellings:HAY-lee: Haley
KAY-lee: Kaylee
CAR-lee: Carly
KATE-linn: Caitlin
KAY-linn: Idk about preferred spelling. Kalin?
AL-i-sen: Allison
JAY-den: Jaden for a boy & Jaiden for a girl
KAY-den: Caden
HAY-den: Hayden
AY-den: Aidan
KATH-rinn: Katherine
bree-ANN-a: Brianna
ZO-ee: Zoe
Mak-AY-la: Michaela
MAD-eh-linn: Madelyn, I suppose. I prefer Madeline (mad-ah-line)As for variant spellings, I can tolerate:
Hayley, Katelyn(n), Alyson, Catherine, and Zoey.
I tend to strongly dislike any other spellings. Those I know with the names:
I've known one Haley - we went to high school together and she was two grades ahead of me. I also knew a girl who went by Hali (prn. the same). It was one of her MNs.
I've known several Kaylees - all under 5. One sibset was David (9), Eaven (pr. Evan, 4) and Kaylee (3).
I've known one Carly. She is a year older than me. She has a younger brother named Connor.
I had so many Cailins in my high school class it was crazy. Most of them were Caitlin "Cate/Kate/Catie/Katie". One of my sisters has the MN Katelyn.
I've known one Kalin, spelled Kaylin. She is probably about 25 now. She has a sister my age named Taylor and an even younger brother named William "Billy". Their dad is William "Bill".

My turn:Which is your favorite spelling of these names and why?HAY-lee - Hayley, it makes me think of hay, a lovely golden color and a nice smell.
KAY-lee - Kayley, it just looks right to me, probably because it's similar to Hayley.
CAR-lee - Carly, most familiar, doesn't look too trendy.
KATE-linn - Caitlin, this is really pretty. I'd definitely spell it with a C.
KAY-linn - I don't really have one. If I had to I'd spell it Caelin.
AL-i-sen - Alison, the original and looks much better than Allison.
JAY-den - Jadon, a biblical name with a history.
KAY-den - Caden, it looks less trendy than versions that include a Y.
HAY-den - Hayden, definitely.
AY-den - Aidan, definitely.
KATH-rinn - I guess Katharine.
bree-ANN-a - Briana, even though I prefer it pronounced bree-AH-na.
ZO-ee - Zoe, definitely.
Mak-AY-la - Mikaela
MAD-eh-linn - Madeline. I know three Madelines who all pronounce it MAD-eh-linn so I find it weird when people say MAD-eh-line. I've asked them if anyone they've met has ever pronounced it MAD-eh-line and they said no one has ever tried to pronounce it that way. Which other spellings of these names do you find tolerable?HAY-lee - Haley and Hailie. I guess Hailie because I have a friend named this, otherwise I probably wouldn't like it.
KAY-lee - Kaley and Caley, they look like surnames and not so trendy. Kaylie isn't horrible either but I dislike it.
CAR-lee - Carley is the only other spelling I kind of like but Carlie and Karly aren't horrible.

I don't know anyone who says mi-KAY-la. It sounds more like mak-KAY-la to me. The first syllable sounds like the first syllable of Mackenzie. But maybe that's different where you live. McKayla is also a spelling that is being used.Ooops just realized I spelled it mak-AY-la, sorry, my mistake.

McKaylai forgot about that one! i don't like it. :/i also hate McKenna/Makenna and McKylie and ones like that.

Generally, Michaela and Mackenzie do start with the same vowel sound. It's not the short "a" sound like in "Mack", it's the schwa sound (ə). So, in my accent it would be "mə-KAY-lə" and "mə-KIN-zee". If I was trying to enunciate more Michaela would be mi-KAY-lə.

Uhmmmm in my accent it's definitely the short 'a' as in Mack. The 'a' in Mack isn't even that short when I think about it. But the first syllable sounds like MACK. Mack is also a common nickname for Mackenzie. Argh I don't know how to explain it, I just connect the first and second syllable. I understand what you mean, it's just a slight difference anyway, so I guess it has something to do with our accents :)
