HazelAnd of course a red-haired girl can be named Hazel. Just as a girl named Ruby or Scarlett does not have to be red-haired."But it’s all right now.

I like Avery better because it's lighter and prettier, Hazel is nice but a bit old-fashioned. :)Image hosting by Photobucket

Hazel is a great name but i'm not too keen on Avery. Of course a red-haired girl can be a hazel! Go for it!

AveryI knew a few Hazel's at school, none of whom I liked. I've never met an Avery so I prefer it. Of course a red-head can be called Hazel ... In fact, I always picture Hazel with "autumnal" colouring._____________________________________________________________________Elinor

Definitely Hazel for a girl. Avery for her brother, maybe. :) And imo, a girl with any hair/eye color can be called Hazel (the same goes with Scarlett, Ruby, Violet, etc.).

Hazel!I love it, so simple and feminine, where as Avery is rather masculine sounding.

Avery. Hazel has a degree of popularity on this board and I'm getting kind of tired of it.

Avery-this name has really started growing on me though I used to really dislike it. I know a sweet two year old Avery-that probably helps! :) Hazel is nmsaa.

I much prefer Hazel, it's a great name. Avery I don't like at all. I think a red haired girl can have the name Hazel, why not.

I much prefer Avery (or Aubrey) over Hazel. Hazel just sounds abrasive and reminds me of Witch Hazel. Avery's perfectly acceptable for a girl now.

I definitely like Hazel better than Avery (I might be biased as Hazel is one of my favourite names). Also, red hair would suit a Hazel perfectly. :)

Definitely Hazel. Avery is a surname, is boyish, and makes me think of aviaries.A red-haired girl could certainly be named Hazel, I think it works well.

I like Hazel way better than Avery. I don't see why a red haired girl couldn't be named Hazel. I have red hair and I don't see any problem with it; though, it would make more sense for a girl with hazel eyes to have this name, rather than a girl with say my color eyes (blueish-green). ~Arie~

Hazel; and yes, Hazel is more of a plant-name to me and I think it fits someone of any complexion and coloring. I think Avery is too newfangled and surnamey to grow up gracefully - seems "cute" today, but will probably seem really blah and passe in 15-20 years.- chazda

Of course a red-haired girl can be named Hazel! I worked at an old folks home for a while and there was this sweet little old lady with a curly red wig named Hazel. She used to knit me hats and scarves and mittens every winter and berets for the summer lol.I like the sound (like, the literal sound) of Avery better though. There's something... grand about it. I can't put my finger on it.
