A few combinations
Could I ask for a little feedback on some of the combinations I've come up with lately? I'm just really getting back into names, so this is the first list I've had in a while. Some of the names do have significance, but I'll refrain from boring you all and just let them speak for themselves. Romilly Hero Vivienne
Josephine Violet Faye
Araminta Poppy Jane
Hebe Liliane Wren
Cecily Genevieve May
Beatrice Eliza FlorenceAlso, what do you think of Oleander (♀/♂)? I think it's going on the guilty pleasure list... Thanks :)
Like the dead sea.
You told me I was like the dead sea.

Romilly Hero Vivienne - Romilly Vivienne is gorgeous, but I don't feel Hero adds anything, actually it feels like it takes something away from the beauty of Romilly VivienneJosephine Violet Faye - Sounds boringAraminta Poppy Jane - I like it, it has a bohemian feelHebe Liliane Wren - I like Hebe and I like WrenCecily Genevieve May - Nice but has a princessy feelBeatrice Eliza Florence - Eliza Florence is beautiful

Romilly Hero Vivienne: I don't particularly like Romilly, but I do like Vivienne. Hero is a bit random in between two classic names like Romilly and Vivienne. However, I do like it. I like the combo as a whole.Josephine Violet Faye: I like all these names, and they sound very nice together.Araminta Poppy Jane: I like Araminta, and Jane is very pretty, but Poppy gets on my nerves. I don't really like it. I would prefer Araminta Jane.Hebe Liliane Wren: I don't like Hebe. I like Liliane, but not that spelling. Wren is a favorite.Cecily Genevieve May: I love this combo.Beatrice Eliza Florence: I like Beatrice and Eliza. Florence, not so much.

Thanks :) Hero to me is a classic, if an off-beat one, haha.

I love them all. I'm not a huge fan of Faye, Cecily & Beatrice, but they work so well in the combo! And I love Oleander, but only for a boy. Though I may be a bit biased because I have a weakness for -ander names.

Thank you, dear :)

I love Araminta! Araminta Poppy Jane is nice.
Beatrice Eliza Florence is ok too.
Not such a fan of the other ones.
I think Oleander could grow on me, but only for a boy. I know it's a flower name, but it sounds like a boys name to me.

Yeah, I'm definitely thinking Oleander for a boy, I just wasn't sure initially.

Wow! I've never even heard of most of these names!Romilly Hero Vivienne - Romilly sounds kinda funny to me but I guess I'd get used to it if I heard it a lot! Hero is super cool!! I know that cos of Shakespeare but I don't think I'd use it irl. Maybe as a middle name maybe. Love Vivienne :DJosephine Violet Faye - Love Josephine! We might use this as a mn for one of our girls. I dunno know if I like it much with Violet and Faye. It doesn't seem to flow or something. Maybe Josephine Iola Faye? I think it's the F and V sounds together that make it hard to say??Araminta Poppy Jane - Araminta is so princessy!! It's too much for me. I never liked Poppy either but Jane is very sweet. Hebe Liliane Wren - Hee-be? Like getting the heeby-jeebies?? xD I like Liliane Wren a lot but maybe spelled Lilian. Maybe Phoebe Lilian Wren? Cecily Genevieve May - this is so pretty! Genevieve is really lovely!Beatrice Eliza Florence - I don't like Beatrice at all >_< I guess there's nothing wrong with it I just don't like it. But Eliza is nice and Florence is okay but makes me think of wet flannels somehow. I might make it Betrys Eliza something-not-Florence.Oleander is okay. It sounds like a boys name cos of the -ander. Like Lysander or Evander.

Phoebe is way too popular here :/
vote up1
Is it?? I didn't know it was popular anywhere. So I guess you don't like popular names? But I still don't think Hebe is very nice to actually use >_<
vote up1
It's #28 in England and Wales :) I like popular names, just not as first names - Poppy, Eliza, Florence and Violet are all popular here.

Quick noteYou guys are totally welcome to make alternate suggestions for middle names if you feel they don't work, or especially dislike them. I'm significantly more attached to the first names, though, so it'll be much harder to convince me to let go of any of those, especially Romilly and Josephine.

Welcome back! I appreciate the fanciful elegance undergirding all of your combinations, even if I don't love their cadences or all of their constituent parts. My favorite is probably Araminta Poppy Jane, though I'd love Hebe Liliane Wren without Wren.As for Oleander, I find it enchanting and have experimented with using it as a masculine middle names.

Thank you! I've just voted on a couple of your polls, actually - I'm rather fond of your taste :) You're completely welcome to suggest alternatives to names you don't feel work.

I think I'm definitely going to find a home for Oleander on my boys' list.

Tbh, I think they are a bit much. I would personally prefer: Romilly Genevieve
Vivienne Faye
Violet Josephine
Poppy Jane
Beatrice Liliane - I would prefer Lillian
Eliza Wren
Florence MayOleander is nms, I just don't like the sound of it at all.

Haha, see, to me, none of those are anywhere near enough - they all seem really insubstantial to me, especially Poppy Jane. I suppose I'm just a fan of grandeur :)

Romilly Hero Vivienne --I really dislike Romilly. It's a surname and has such an odd...bouncy? sound to it. Hero is all word to me. I just can't see it as a name. I do love Vivienne, though.
Josephine Violet Faye --Josephine Violet is absolutely beautiful but Faye is a bit of a letdown. Josephine Violet May would be much improved.
Araminta Poppy Jane --Araminta is way too much for me, and Poppy is so cutesy.
Hebe Liliane Wren --Hebe is a racial slur for Jews in my book. :/ I know it's a legit name and I know it's pronounced differently, but that's all I think of (and HEE-bee is so very, very ugly anyway. It makes me think of heebie-jeebies). I love Liliane and Wren is sweet in the middle, but I don't like the flow of Liliane Wren.
Cecily Genevieve May --Ooh, this is gorgeous!
Beatrice Eliza Florence --I dislike all three names but it's a nice combo.Oleander reminds me of odor, but as a guilty pleasure, sure.

I've never actually known "Hebe" as a slur. Odd. I've known it used as a name before, but rarely, so I don't actually know about the general consensus on it as a name vs. as an insult. Something to look into/ponder I guess.Regarding Josephine Violet ___, if you have any suggestions instead of May, I'd be happy to hear them.

Sure! Let's see.Josephine Violet Claire
Josephine Violet Mary
Josephine Violet Camille
Josephine Violet Alice
Josephine Violet Isabel
Josephine Violet Miriam
Josephine Violet Mirabel
Josephine Violet Gabrielle
Josephine Violet Lark
Josephine Violet Audrey
Josephine Violet Maeve
Josephine Violet Mathilde
Josephine Violet Amelie
Josephine Violet Alix
Josephine Violet Lucille
Josephine Violet PearlAnd it just occurred to me that Josephine Violet Wren would be gorgeous.

I actually rather like Josephine Violet Alice, but the trouble is with Alice is that I have both a positive and negative association with it, and I can never decide which is more important to me. Hrm. I could get behind Josephine Violet Pearl!

My honest opinion...
Romillly: looks and sounds made up. Hero: ridiculous as someones name. Vivienne: older but waymore decent and respectable than the other 2.
Josephine violet faye: all names are decent and respectable.with faye though I muchprefer the spelling of fae. Like with mae
Araminta poppy jane: jane is fine...the other 2 no. Araminta sounds more of a name for a ship and "poppy" is slang for father or grandfather. It also just sounds like someone with an accent saying "puppy"
Hebe lilliane wren: hebe is stupid regardless of the pronounciation. Lilliane im not sure of. Wren sounds like "when"
Cecily Genevieve may: workable but...none of thenames I really care for. Mayis best but prefer the spelling of mae
Beatrice eliza florence: I like eliza. Dont care for beatrice or florence.

Just my response to your response. Is there any particular reason you're posting under two different names?
vote up1
Yeah sorry. Just not crazy for any of the combos.
I just have different taste tan you I guess
vote up1
Honestly, that's fine. I just tend to prefer a little more tact and the way you worded your response caught me off-guard. I'm totally open to criticism. But, seriously, be careful with the two-names thing - it's against the board rules/guidelines.

Romilly Hero Vivienne - Romilly. Next time someone asks me my guilty pleasures, I'm going to list Romilly. I think it's gorgeous. I don't like Hero and prefer Vivien. Romilly Hera Vivien would by my tweak (and I typed twerk originally, for the record). Josephine Violet Faye - I love it all aside from Faye, which makes me think of a heavy smoker 50s diner waitress. I'd prefer May here. Araminta Poppy Jane - It's a bit much but I like it. Jane Araminta Poppy would nice too. Hebe Liliane Wren - Hebe? Hmm... pronounced Heebee? or Heeb? I hope not the second because it sounds a little... racially charged. I like Wren. Liliane, nope. Is that like Lily-anne? Cecily Genevieve May - GORGEOUS. Beatrice Eliza Florence - ALSO GORGEOUS.

In response to, well, everything... I was actually considering Romilly Hera Vivienne, but to me Hero gave the combination a little more substance, sound-wise - I think it's the round ending, if you get what I mean. Faye has never made it onto my list until now, I always found her a little flimsy, but the combo just came to me and clicked straight away, which is lucky as I've always struggled finding middles for Josephine.I'd probably use Minnie as a nickname for Araminta, if that makes lit a little less much, but I totally like Jane Araminta Poppy too. It's pronounced as HEE-bee, like Phoebe. Thankfully. And Liliane is like Lily-Anne, 'cept a little more French ;)
