2 boys names for today
Aleric Charle
Roque Edsel
Any comments on these? A critique would be fantastic. created to honor Charles and/or Edward Alan and Rochie... with a French flair that I love (and matches surname). ______________________________________________

Aleric. I want to like this but I much prefer Alaric. Charle looks unfinished.
Roque sounds like a celebrity baby name- not in a good way and Edsel looks like a typo. Sorry no love here today.

Aleric Charle is weird, I see that you had meant Alaric, which I like but Charle is just weird, it looks weird and SHARL is an ugly sound. CHARL is slightly more attractive, I'd prefer Alaric Charles. There is nothing wrong with Roque I guess, other than reminding my of crochet, I think people would have a lot of problems with it outside of a Spanish/Portuguese area. It would never occur to me to pronounce it RO-ke. I think Rocco is much more accessible. Edsel is handsome.

Alaric is okay. I like Alan or Eric more, though, because the pronunciation of Alaric never seems quite right to me, or it's not intuitive for me. I always want to say a-LAHR-ic or a-LAIR-ic. Charle "sharl" seems feminine. Who took his S? But since it's a middle name, I am not really criticizing that too much. I have to wonder where the need for flair comes from though - why not Alan Charles? I know that Alan Charles is not as interesting to post but it's a darn good name and for me, Alaric Charle isn't particularly better. Well actually, Alaric is more memorable than Alan, and sounds more modern, so that's a thing.Roque looks spiffy with the Q, but then I try to say it out loud. It seems about equally likely to be like croquet, rocky, rock, like broke, or like pokey. I am afraid to make a guess, but none of those sounds is appealing to me anyway. (oh but I saw it's linked and I guess it's like croquet / Enrique? lol well, I would not have guessed it right... more a critique of me, than of the name, there) It looks nice on paper, that's about it. I think Edsel is an okay middle name though. I wish it didn't have any negative associations because I like the sound and look of it more than I do Edward. Anyway I'd probably name my son Edward Rochie, if I were determined to honor those names.

Thanks for the honest critiques everyone.
I like Alan Charles, or even Carlisle Alan, but DH does not. Roque can be pronounced ro-kay, but also as row-k... the same as Roch in French. But Roch would be said "roach" here I am sure. btw - Rochie is a girl. My SIL. I guess I am back to the name search!

Aleric could be awesome if it were Alaric. As it is, it's pretty good. Is that a type-o or to you really mean Aleric Charle with no s? Roque is cool. Edsel doesn't bother me at all. I had to look up the Ford reference, never knew any of that.

You are right about Alaric. It was a mispelling on my part... though now that I look at it, I do like Aleric as well, despite it's lack of legitimacy. I intended for the middle name to just be "sharl", but if Charles goes well, I am not married to either combo - just putting feelers out.

"edsel is a no-go"And has come to symbolize a major failure. Plus it was a funny-looking car.Roque just makes me think of Roquefort cheese.
Charles is nice. I hope you intended to spell it that way and not Charle, which looks like nothing except a typo.
Aleric makes me think of allergy medicine.

Plus Edsel Ford was an anti-Semite.

I'm usually the first to argue that the car should not render Mercedes unusable as a personal name, but yeah, can't say the same for Edsel.

Ah, I see. You have associations with some of the names that I have not heard of. My grandfather collects and shows antique autos and loves this type of car, but I can see why some may think the association too strong. It was considered a failure only because so many people purchased a car they thought was new-age, but it was really just the same. Marketing ploy I guess... but I like the way it looks. I assumed the association would have died out by now. I might consider another Ed-name in it's place. Thanks.
