WDYT of Madigan and Breccan/Breckin?
All opinions welcome:Just heard of the name Madigan, though I think I may have stumbled across it before.
Sounds very Princess Bride to me. Anyway - thoughts? Nickname Maddie?Breccan was suggested to me via a name-pairing site... and I already had Breckin on an old list... so, what is the consensus on these?

Madigan makes me think of Elvira - or Madison in a cardigan.
Breccan/Breckin sounds exactly like Brecon:

I've never seen it used as a name, but don't see why it shouldn't be one, and the spelling appeals to me more than the other two.

I don't like Madigan but I do like Radigan, which was the name of a female Saint and has a history of usage in Cornwall.Breccan and Breckin are nms.

Madigan sounds almost like it could be borderline cool. But realistically more like the parents liked Maddie and though MAdison and Madeleine were too popular. I don't know. I'm not sold.Breccan has a rough outdoorsy feel to me. It reminds me of 'brick' and 'Wiccan'. I definitely prefer Breccan to Breckin. Name-wise, it reminds me of Stellan.

Madigan is all Elvira Madigan to me. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elvira_Madigan) I like the sound of it though.Breccan is okay. I like that spelling better than Breckin.

Madigan goes with Murphy and Finnegan and Riordan and Cassidy and Gallagher and Keegan and Quinlan etc etc ... has that "feckless, lucky, and chipper" character-vibe of Irish surnames. It's sorta likable, but it's a little too self-consciously characterish for my taste. Also, sounds a little too much like "mad again."Breccan spelling reminds of Moroccan, Rebecca, and Wiccan. It also looks sort of like a nickname for ... something. Breckin makes me think of beckon and wrecking. I guess they both just seem surnamey, in a generic way, with the usual spiffy/spunky vibe those types of names have. NMS as I don't really like the sounds Br- and -kin very much, but not awful. I think Breccan looks more sophisticated or tweedy, like Brendan or Declan, and Breckin looks more rugged and sporty like Brock or Beckham.

Love your assessment of Breccan. I like Breckin a bit better - but not really in love. Maybe I should mention that Madigan is unisex, and I was unconsciously thinking of a girl.

Yeah, I would be a little less surprised to meet a young female Madigan than a male one. But as I answered you I was picturing it as a boy name, I guess because it just seemed more appropriate. heh

What's the name-pairing site? I can't get onto Nymbler anymore and it makes me sad.I like Madigan. It's got a boho chic to it. Maddie is ok...but if I was a Madigan, I'd spell it Madi, and be all exotic-like. It reminds me of Madmartigen, from Willow. Oh handsome Val Kilmer. Elora is a name from that movie I also love. I'd use it.Breccan does nothing for me. Is it unisex?

Willow!! Not Princess Bride.I knew it was one of my sick-day loves. Elora IS lovely. I prefer it spelt Ellora as in the Indian caves.Hmm, makes me wonder if Danan is usable?
I agree that Madi would be better.
Breccan is male. Irish. Think of Breckin Meyer (actor).
