If you enunciated both names slowly, Jeff Phillips wouldn't sound as bad. Then again, you can't prevent others from doing so and that would bug me too. While PG with my youngest, my dh and I very briefly toyed with the idea of Jacob since my dh's name is James. The problem was that our surname begins with the letter B and it sounded pretty bad. We also eliminated other names such as Elizabeth and Rebecca for the same reason.Is Jeffrey a family name? Would you consider using it as a mn? That way, he'd always be _______ Jeffrey Phillips and it wouldn't sound as run-on.
