Jacob
Any love for Jacob? I still like it, even though it seems to be everywhere. It's a sweet name, IMO. Willoughby wolloughby willina, an elephant sat on Billina.

I feel the same way. It used to be one of my favorite names as a kid. Now as a teacher, I seem to have at least one Jacob in every class. I probably wouldn't use it, but I still like the name.

Ubiquitous. Jake/Jacob is to the children of today what Mike/Michael was to my generation (30-something)...common long enough to the point of generic.

I really like it and the popularity doesn't bother me that much. It's weird because a few years ago I hated it, just too old-man, Old Testament for me. I get a different vibe from it these days though.I don't have an issue with nicknames but I don't like Jake (seems like a lot of people here don't like it). If I had a Jacob, I think I'd use Jay as a nickname.

Same here, more or less. I used to get the same vibe from it, and then I found a fascinating ancestor with the name and decided I liked it a lot, but not Jake. Jay is much better.

I like it, but I'm put off by too popular names.

I like it, but it's too popular and I'm not keen on Jake.

I like Jacob a lot. I dislike Jake though. It isn't quite as popular here as it is in the US although it's still frequently used across age groups.

I love it. I'd use it if I didn't already have a Blake.

It's popular and has been for a while. Like James it seems so old hat, because it is so classically handsome.Popularity still bothers me a little bit, but I'm not sure I would ever find names I like for boys if I worried about that too much.Besides, despite popularity I have only meet three.

I like Jacob, it's solid and, like you said, sweet. I'm just not crazy about Jake, which seems much more tired to me than Jacob, but it'd probably be an inevitable nickname.

I really like Jacob. I'd only use it in the middle, though, because I hate Jake.

I've never understood the popularity. Like, I remember specifically being shocked ten years ago when I was first becoming a name-nerd & I learned Jacob was the most popular boy name in the U.S. at the time. I'm guessing it's because parents liked the prospect of Jake as a nickname -- those parents grew up with cool 80s Jake's in movies and tv! -- but maybe I'm wrong.Anyway, I find Jacob dweeby, and not in a charming way. I actually think it's quite ugly.

I do really like the name Jacob but I agree it is immensely popular and all over the place, but still a nice name.

I don't like the -b ending. I have a similar problem with Caleb, and with Zaynab too. It's just ugly to me.I'm OK with the nickname Jake and I like it more than Jacob. It's kind of like Jack, seems sporty and bright, but Jake is a little more aggressive seeming.

We have one of those "Roomba" vacuum-cleaners, that run around by themselves. My husband named it Zaynab.

I really like Jacob, it's just so overdone here, plus i'm not such a fan of Jake, and Jake seems inevitable

I don't specifically dislike it, but I think it feels too youthful for me.

I really like Jacob. It's not that popular over here. I prefer the Jakob spelling though.

I still like it! I think it's a sweet name, cuddly almost.

I'm rather neutral about it. It has some Old Testament charm, but it does always make me think of a gnarly old man. And then there's the popularity issue. You know me and popularity. When a friend of mine named her baby Jacob in 2003, and stated that she knew it was the number one name in the country, my inner-eye-rolling was massive. I just don't get how people can not care about that. And the fact that at work, up until a few of them quit recently, we had no fewer than five female employees named Brittany, so we always had to refer to them using their last name, and surprise surprise they were all in the 30 year age range, has only strengthened my view.

I don't understand that either. My name was #148 the year I was born and even though it wasn't super popular, I still met people in class with the same name all the time and it's so annoying! I can't imagine what being a #1 name would be like.

I've really liked it for a long time, but have never cared for the nickname Jake.

My above-mentioned friend used Jacob solely to get to the nickname Jake.

I like Jake. Kinda sounds like a dog name, though.
