Emma - prefer how it sounds

GemmaDefinitely Gemma since it is not so popular. Plus it feels a bit more substantive and I love the gemstone connection.

Gemma. Emma is way, way too common, and sort of bland. Gemma sounds stronger. That being said, I don't particularly like Gemma either.

Def Emma. Gemma is cute, but doesn't seem like a serious name for an adult.

I'm going with Emma, but I'm pretty neutral on both of them.

Gemma. I agree with hylo... not that modesty is exactly what strikes me most about Emma, but that's a nice way to contrast these 2 names. Gemma is, yeah, flashier and tackier - but Emma is so totally lacking in those qualities, that just about any name that isn't Anna or Mary or Sarah, is relatively flashier and tackier than Emma. I think Gemma's no tackier than, say, Iris, Karen, Caitlin, or Erica.Gemma doesn't even remind me of Emma anyway. It's like the huge difference between Bella and Ella.

Ok, you do pronounce of Gemma with hard G, right? Or with zh- pronounciation?

it's with a J sound :)

I'd choose Emily or Jemima! Emma is so popular, and also so bland and lacking in personality, while Gemma is foolishly pretentious.

EmmaGamma just feels so dated to me. There were tons of them at school when I was growing up

Emma. Gemma is pretty too though.

GemmaGemma.Emma's classic, I get that, and it's undeniably beautiful. It's also very common. Gemma sounds just as gorgeous, but it's a little more original.

I find Emma more classic, but I prefer Gemma. I've always had a soft spot for Gemma actually.

GemmaI'd go for Gemma. One of my best friends is called Emma, but she doesn't like how popular her name is (I don't like popular names either), and apart from her, Emma does not have a good image for me. There's actually another association I'd rather not have connected to an Emma.

GemmaEmma is a bit too modest for me.

Emmait may be the #1 name here right now, but I don't care. lol I do like Gemma, but I like Emma even more!

EmmaIt's overused, but it's a timeless classic. Gemma was a big fad in the 80s/90s here & just feels like a cheap blingy version of Emma.

EmmaIf Gemma was spelled as Jemma, I'd probably pick that. I prefer the name a bit more over Emma but I really dislike the Gemma spelling. Gemma just doesn't do it for me.
