LEELA Vs LIE-la

It's interesting that people are saying they prefer the spelling Lila. To me, they are different names!Lila is LEEla and Lyla is LIE-la in my experience.

Agree. Lila is LEE-la, Lilah and Lyla are LIE-la. I'm sure there are enough people out there named Lila LIE-la for it to be a "legit name", but it really doesn't look like LIE-lah to me. It's more intuitive to pronounce Lila as, well, Li-la. I guess I associate Lila / Lilah with Maria / Mariah, so that's why I automatically say it differently with and without the h? Lyla is more obvious but I think it looks more trendy.

NopeLila's pretty intuitively "LY-la" to me. The only name I'd pronounce "LEE-la" is Lela.

I would always say LIE-la for Lila unless told otherwise by the person who has the name. I associate it with Lilah / Lilach / Lilac.

The pronunciation of Lyla seems pretty obvious to me. Like Kyla or Kylie or Rylee or Skylynn.
Maybe it's different for people who don't speak English, but that doesn't seem to be the issue here.

That’s odd.
I know an older lady, in her 70’s, named Lila, and it’s pronounced Lie-luh.
I have a friend with a little girl Layla, prn Lay-luh.Never met anyone named Lyla or Lila pronounced Lee-la.

I think there was a grandmother or something on my stepfather's side who was Lela, pronounced LEE-la.I once met a very old lady whose name was Leila, pronounced Lee-EYE-la.

Lila & Lyla are both pronounced LIE-la
Leela and Leila are pronounced Lee-la although occasionally Leila is pronounced Lay-la.

In Germany Leila and Laila are always pronounced as LY-la. Leyla and Layla are usually LAY-la, but Layla can be LY-la too.Lila is a Sanskrit name and that is definitely pronounced LEE-la. However it can also be short for Delilah and then it's LY-la. There's really no way to tell which is why I'd avoid them even though I do like Lila and Leila.

German tends to have "ei" sound like "eye," which is reflected in names like Leigeber, so their pronunciation of Leila doesn't surprise me. I thought Layla was pretty much universally pronounced like Lay-la, so an alternative Ly-la pronunciation surprises me.

My Indian friends who are named Lila say LEELA.My Arabic friends who are Leila or Layla are LAYLA.These people speak the original language as their mother tongue.

Leila and Lila are used in a lot of countries, and India contains multiple dialects and regional variations. I'm not saying your friends are wrong. How can they be? But that doesn't mean that they are the only ones who are right. I already stated that I have heard Leila pronounced two ways.
