What is your favorite nickname for Margaret?
I have been doing some historical research on the area I grew up in, which for almost two centuries was largely comprised of Dutch Americans. Two of the most common names I see for women when looking through archives are Geertje (nickname for Gertrude) and Greetje (nickname for Margaret). I had never really heard of either, which just has me thinking about all the possibilities that come with Margaret (since I’m not really a Gertrude person myself). Any favorites?

Meg is my favorite nickname, while Maggie is another one I like.

Maggie, Mags, Mari (rhyme sari).I also like Peggy, but I don't really think of it as a nick for Margaret.

MaisieMeg and Mae are also cute. I loathe Maggie. It makes my skin crawl.

Greta, Madge, Meg, moreProbably Greta although that feels more like a standalone name to me than the others. Madge / Midge are fun and seem natural to me but also antiquated.
Meg seems natural to me and more classic but still a little dated because of Megan's recent popularity. Also Mags has been growing on me. That one's the most current seeming to me, maybe.
I guess Peggy could be revived, too. It seems similar to Penny, which I like.Margot and Maisie are okay, but Margot sounds bossy to me, and Maisie seems saccharine. And those seem like standalone names.

I do like Margaux but I don't see it as a nickname for Margaret but a name in its own right. Margaret nn "Margaux" would seem odd and far-fetched to me. Same with Greta which is so popular on its own.To be honest I strongly dislike Margaret and can't think of a nickname I like either. As I said I like Margaux but Margaret nn Margaux would seem so odd to me I just couldn't do it. So I guess Meg?

MaggieAnd it's my daughter's name (not because I like the name Margaret, but it honours her late paternal grandmother who died young). So I chose Maggie as the nickname, it's used as her full name all of the time and her name is only officially Margaret on the birth cert.

Margot... or Mage?

Meg, Maggie or Maisie / Maisy. I love all those options and love all of them as full names too.

Madge and Midge!I forgot that these names come from Margaret: this makes me appreciate Margaret a bit more now.

My grandfather’s cousin was known as Greta. Molly is also a version I like.Moll though reminds of the book Moll Flanders by Daniel Defoe.

Maggie. It's a little simpering but the others are either too kitsch-y (Peggy, Midge), or sound like its own name (Margot, Greta).

Maggie or Margot. I’m not really a fan of Margaret, but I’m in the minority on BtN.

I adore Daisy but am more likely to use Meg which I also really like.

I think my favorite nn for Margaret is semi-dated Margie. Midge is alright and kind of fun & spunky. Otherwise, most of the others I can think of, I prefer as standalone names vs. as a nn for Margaret, like Mae or Margo(t). In my search, though, I realized Maisie could also be a nn for Margaret & that is a cute idea.
