I love them both.
I think
Emerald is a little bit more - well, I was going to say it was more my style, but I think what I mean is that it hasn't been used a lot in my experience, and so it seems more flexible.
Jasmine is a little bit nineties, like
Alyssa or
Briana. And its image in my mind is similar to that of
Kendra or
Amber (older) and
Jade or
Lily (younger). I like its "image" - and it's a longtime favorite of mine - but it's *got* an image, for me, more than
Emerald does. So
Emerald seems more like a baby-name, to me - a blank slate so to speak. I like it when a name doesn't have an image associated with any people, it makes it seem like it has more positive potential, or something like that.
But,
Emerald starts like a whole lot like many other recently popular names -
Emma,
Emily,
Emerson,
Emilia,
Emery,
Ember ... and I kinda feel like it is made more boring by that trendy Em-sound. If that were not true,
Emerald would be a lot higher on my list.
I'd be willing to name a baby either one. I'd probably go with
Emerald if I were doing that today, but I might not every day.
