Never ever name a girl James! Use Jacqueline, Jane, or probably Jamie.

James for a girl, and Jaymes for anyone, would be idiotic.

Not a fan of James on a girl. I would prefer Jamie, Jamey, Jayma, Jacomina, Jacqueline, Jacquette, Jacquetta and Jamesina.

I hate James so so much for a girl. Jaymes does not make it any better. It’s better to use Jamie instead.

I'd assume it was her last name and that she was one of those people who gets called by their last name all the time for some reason.
If I knew it was a first name, it would seem weird but I'd assume there was some special meaning behind it, like maybe she was the only child of a person who really wanted to make sure their kid was named after their grandfather, or something like that. I've seen Jayma and Jama (looks like 'jam' but pronounced like jay-ma) on girls, so the best I can think of is James as a nickname for one of those names like Jules for Juliet. But James as a full name is all boy to me. (Another one of those boy names where I'd describe the sound and style as "feminine", but that doesn't mean it would work on a girl.)

I absolutely hate it. It seems bizarrely trendy. Jaymes is a catastrophe of a spelling, too.James for a boy, Jamie for a girl (dated but works).

What is it with people wanting to name girls James atm? It's been all over reddit namenerd parody posts and presumably all over namenerd reddit, if you think about it for more than two seconds it's just daft... so either you're trolling, or you haven't thought about how it sounds in the real world. I know most gender norms are stupid, but if I sat here and said 'I wanna call my son Elizabeth', nobody would take me seriously. Some names are, in practice, in the eyes of most people, just gendered and that's that. Also, I'm sorry to all the Jameses out there... it's just not that nice a name. I've never liked it, and I don't get the appeal, I find it a bit dull.

Truth be told, I struggle to see this as a feminine name, but I don’t judge any girl who bears it. I wouldn’t be flabbergasted if I met a girl named James, but I’d probably assume she was a boy (at first). I think it’s very handsome and sexy for a man, though.

I know I'm in the minority, but I actually don't mind James for a girl. It's cute and tomboyish. I wouldn't choose it for anyone myself, but I could get behind it on someone else.

Just awful

Don't like it at all

It's repellent. On a girl its artificial, spiteful, grating, and insincere. On a boy it's handsome, classy and classic. Adding a Y to it just seems like adding an orange to an apple pie. Actual horse mad girls known are Ellie and Lori.

I so so so so so so so strongly dislike it. It's not the worst thing in the world but it just screams masculine to me. There are so many good girl names or truly unisex names even.

I hate James on a girl. If I saw Jaymes I would be more likely to think it was a girl because adding the y looks like a very obvious and lame way to try and feminize something that is clearly masculine. James has such a deep history as a boy’s name. I could definitely see a Jamie being a horse girl and much prefer Jamie for a girl.

No, I don't like it for girl but it's generally for boy.

No, just use Jamie.

I dislike the name James enough, that to me, it isn't really any worse on a girl.I think of a girl - or a boy, it hardly matters since the name has no sexy at all imo - who is sheltered and nervous, whose parents would wish her to become, say, a corporate lawyer, but she probably won't get into law school. Or want to.
I guess I feel like James is a name that doesn't FIT anyone real.
I do like Jamie for both girls and boys, but not as a nn for James - just as a full name in itself. It's a little bit like James, a slightly clumsy and mediocre air ... but seems less accidentally so, more playful and modest, less high strung and smug than James seems to me.
A gal Jamie who rides horses, I can easily picture.

Too boyish. There’s Jacqueline and even Jamesina to consider.
