Re: What's your thoughts on the name LaFree for a boy?

I wouldn't be the one to talk when your own username is "Anneza"

Ew.
This isn't about others' usernames, it's about LaFree.
Saying that a name is ignorant and inconsiderate while also having a unique name is frankly hypocritical!!
Emezli, you asked for others' opinions on your name choice for a boy. This wasn't and shouldn't be about any user's name. I don't know why you would ask what people think of your name choice if you're not ready to hear what they think of it.
i just find it extremely hypocritical to call a name "ignorant and Inconsiderate" when your own name can also be considered "ignorant and inconsiderate" to someone else thats all im saying! like last time i checked "Anneza" is not a common name at all!
How would Anneza be considered ignorant or inconsiderate just because it isn't very common? This isn't about popularity vs. rarity.
Like most people here, it’s not her actual name.
For what it's worth, you misread my comment. I do not for one moment think that a name can be ignorant or inconsiderate. The person choosing a 'name' like LaFree, on the other hand, is manifestly ignorant and inconsiderate. None of your questions or answers command respect, and I will stop bothering with them as from now.
Anneza is not a name a girl would get teased for, at least. It's unique, but it's not obnoxious. Freea and LaFree are kind of obnoxious. I could see Freea on a girl but definitely not a boy.
Again, this is not about Anneza's name. A person named Anneza is allowed to have an opinion on the name "LaFree." They're not mutually exclusive.

How is LaFree or Freea that bad its literally Free with either an "A" at the end or "La" at the beginning
That's what makes them so bad, the LA and a added onto the word Free. No thanks.
They are both feminine.
LaFree would literally mean "The free" which is very on the nose. It would be like naming your kid "LaHandsome" or "LaSmart." Also, "La" is feminine.
Freea rhymes with almost exclusively girl names (Such as Mia, Leah, etc.), it's a feminine sound to end a name. If I saw the name "Freea" without knowing the gender of the child I would think it was a girl. Kids are ruthless so if you're naming your son this his peers will be ruthless.

I only chose the names LaFree and Freea because i want my son to know that when he becomes an adult that he can do whatever and be whatever especially if it makes society unconformable i don't want him to live a life of misery and resentment because he didn't get to live his life i seen too many people living in a life of anger and resentment because they didn't get to live their lives the way THEY want to rather it be through society or their own parents.
I understand that. This is a good thing to teach your child, but it is unnecessary to make it be a part of his name. That comes down to parenting. You can easily teach your kid while he is growing up that he is free do to what he wants with his life. I don't think he needs to be reminded every time he sees his own name.
Isn't it part of the naming process is to pick a name that has a special meaning

Yes, hence why I suggested Franklin or Freeman. I think it's far more meaningful to have a name with the MEANING of free, rather than a name CONTAINING "free." Putting the meaning right in the name feels really tacky. It's not so on the nose to have a nice meaning with a nice and fairly normal and respectable name, but just putting the meaning right inside of it makes it seem like you're saying "look at my kid, he's so free." It all feels very tacky and surface level, and again, these names are feminine. The kid is not going to like his name.
Do you want your kid to get teased the entire time he is growing up? As I said, kids are harsh. The entire time I was growing up, I was teased for various things I couldn't control and I will say it feels awful. To have the source of that teasing be from your own parent's selfish choices would make the kid resent you. I find it incredibly selfish that you don't understand the consequences and the effect it would have on the person bearing the name if you were to give them it. You THINK this will be special for your kid and teach him an important life lesson, but it will only make his life harder.

We are living in a time were kids have all kinds of unique names like Quvenzhane, Kayleen, Caylee, Cason, Gage, Jaden ect. this isn't the 50s, 60s, 70s, or 80s. its time to stop living like its the past kids of today are used to hearing all sorts of names.
Emezli, I'm going to say this one more time because this discussion is going in circles.
Your child will be bullied. It's selfish to disregard the well being of your child for the grandeur of a name. Please reconsider your choice.

Ok I'll think about it, What if i spelled it "LaFre"
This message was edited 10/21/2023, 2:22 PM
I don't think that makes a difference. It's not the spelling that is the problem.
I want free to be at least part of the name that isn't Freeman, im open to suggestions

These don't all contain "free" but they either contain "free" "fre" or have the sound of "free"
Frederick / Fred etc
Freemund
Freebern (This is a surname but I think it works alright as a fn)
Godfrey - I personally wouldn't use this because to me it sounds very old fashioned
Some other names that don't contain "free" but have the meaning or similar:
Carlton / Charlton - means "settlement of free men"
Lysander - This means "release" which is similar to "free"
Ehud - this is a biblical name, Ehud freed the city of Jericho from Moabite rule. (I would not recommend this because it sounds a bit weird in the modern day.)
Hartwin - the name's meaning contains "brave" which I think can be a nod to being brave enough to be free in your life.
Overall, it's hard to find good names containing "free" because the choices are very limited. I hope this helps.

The only 3 i like is Hartwin, Ehud and Freebern
Well they are some pretty good choices. I personally wouldn't go with Ehud but biblical names can usually pass without much explanation. I'm glad I could help a little bit
Thank you
I'll do some research and see if I can find anything for you
Thank you
