WAFFA:I DO NOT KNOW THE HISTORY OF RACHEL OTHER THAN IN THE BIBLE IT IS THE NAME OF JACOB'S BRIDE (THE SISTER HE TRULY LOVED AND ORIGINALLY WORKED SO MANY YEARS BEFORE SHE BECAME HIS WIFE). SPELLING TRANSLATIONS BETWEEN LANGUAGES IS DIFFICULT AT BEST AND WHEN ENGLISH IS INVOLVED IT CAN BECOME EVEN MORE COMPLICATED BECAUSE ENGLISH IS A HODGEPODGE OF EVERY LANGUAGE KNOWN TO MAN. THERE ARE A LOT OF STRANGE SPELLINGS AND NAMES COMMING OUT IN THE WORLD. SOME NAMES LIKE RACHEL WHICH WERE VERY COMMON HAVE BEEN CHANGED SO MUCH IN ENGLISH LETTERS IT IS HARD TO RECOGNIZE THEM HOWEVER, THAT COULD BE A LINGUAL LEFTOVER WE DO NOT RECOLLECT TOO.JUST CURIOUS CLAIRE: WHAT ARE ALL THAT AFTER THE MY'S IN YOUR RESPONSE?MS. They're punctuation pets. Whenever someone overuses punctuation (i.e., "What does Kelly mean?????"), those punctuation marks are said to be abused. We rescue them and put them up for adoption to good homes.P.S. My own question marks helped with my Kelly example. They were quite willing to do so for the sake of their brethren, so no punctuation was harmed in the making of this post.

You should be asking Mike C. thatHe's the owner and maintainer of this site. He only uses what he feels, through careful and thorough research, is the very best, most accurate etymological sources available.See his sources here: http://www.behindthename.com/references.php.

thank you miranda.
since i do not know the who's who here i am sure i have made common mistakes for which i should be afforded patience and forgiveness from yourself and any one else who thinks or feels i have wronged Integrity, Truth and Honor.i just now only spotted the reference you gave about using all caps - sorry i was not shouting in my heart anything. upper case letters are easier for me to see all. do you know if i can get the font on the post to be larger?sr

Go to the Test BoardAnd search around there. (The "Search" link is right next to the "Post a Message" link on the toolbar which is on top of every board in this community. The Search on any given board will only search that board, i.e. you can't search the Opinions Board from the Lounge.)However, basically the HTML is (iirc): *font-size:Xpt*Wordy McWord*/font*, where the asterisks are less-than and greater-than marks respectively, and X is the font size you want. The board's default is 8, btw.EDIT: I think you might benefit from reading the rules, since you're new here and all: http://www.behindthename.com/bb/help.php?board=gen#rules. Be sure to follow the rules, or else you could be banned. (That last bit was a standard disclaimer and was not meant to be personal at all.) The Help and FAQ are also on the same page; just scroll up and down respectively to see them.

I wouldn't purposely do anything to break what rules have been established I am quite law abiding, but I cannot say I never would because I do not think one can remember much less keep track of so many rules. The base ones I know are always good is try to be civil and polite and humble with every one you come into contact with and if you don't know something do not try to talk as if you do and if you have a question ask it until you are fully satisfied and then move on.sr
