Re: A Swedish name
Hi Phyllis,Hampus is used as a pet name for Hans in Sweden (short form of Johannes, English: John), but actually the name has got Old German roots: Hampus is the latinized version of the Frisian and Low German names Hampe / Hampo / Hampke etc., which are short forms of the Old High German name Hamprecht.
Hamprecht is a newer form of both:Heimbert (meaning: home + shining)and:Hagenbert (meaning: hedge, protection + shining)Regards, Satu
