Aleksei is from Alexius. Another version of Alexius is Alexis, which was--and still is, in many countries--100% male originally.
The female form of Alexius / Alexis in English is Alexia, but unfortunately that's also the medical term for a reading disorder (similar to, but not the same as, dyslexia), albeit through a different etymology.
