Anezka?

A friend of mine just announced that she's naming her baby girl (due the day before my daughter!) Anezka Renee. I believe it's Russian in origin (not sure) since most of the other names that she considered were Russian- but I really can't be sure. Any ideas on what it means, and where it comes from?

It could be a Slavic diminutive form of Anna or Angelica - not sure of the exact orign, though.

It is a form of Agnes.After doing some searching I found out that it is Czech in origin, meaning "pure." It is an ethnic variant of Agniezka, though. Thanks!

Just being pedantic - the actual meaning of Agnes / Agnieszka / Anezka is "chaste" rather than "pure" (very similar, but a slight difference in meaning!)My grandfather grew up in Czechoslovakia :-)
