George never hoped to be king - it was his elder brother,
Andrew, who was heir to the throne. However, when
George was 18, his brother died in suspicious circumstances during a hunting accident, and a week later, his father,
King Henry, succumbed to a disease he has suffered from for several years.
Young George was crowned king two months after his father's demise, and shortly after, married his betrothed and childhood friend,
Lucy. The marriage caused quite some strife, since the 16 year-old
Lucy was merely the daughter of a Marquess -
Andrew's betrothed, on the other hand, was the Spanish Infante
Isabella, who was far from pleased that she wouldn't become
Queen of England.
George and
Lucy grew up together, and were as close as a boy and girl of their age and status could be. While
George regarded his betrothed as a younger sister,
Lucy had feelings for him, which she never confessed.
While at first, the
King was loomed over by treacherous advisors, he came into the job (if ruling a country can be called one) quickly, and was a popular monarch.
A bit over a year into the
King and
Queen's marriage, the
Queen gave birth to a son -
Prince Edmund. She was elated when she found out the child was a boy, but swore that if she ever gave birth to a girl, the princess would receive the same education as her brother.
Edmund is a studious boy, who will surely prove to be a just king, but would benefit from the company of other children.
