Possibly an archaic variant of Potira. Bartira was the name of the daughter of the chief Tibiriçá, an indigenous leader of great importance for the formation of the city of São Paulo. When she got married to the Portuguese explorer João Ramalho, she was baptized as Isabel Dias.
