Ugh not these types of hillbilly names that makes my heart rot seriously, this one is ugly as a molded pear, sickening.
Why should a name with such a beautiful sound have such a ridiculous meaning? No disrespect to bald people, but that meaning is completely irrelevant in the world of names, and being bald, or even not being bald, is not something to brag about or be proud of.
I love the name Calvin! I think it sounds sophisticated while “Cal” is a really sweet nickname. Calvin Coolidge was one of the best US presidents, residing over the Roaring 20s, an incredible era in American history. Cal Ripken Jr was also an incredible baseball player. This is an all-American great name! I hear a lot of people referencing John Calvin- but his name is JOHN, not Calvin, so that’s irrelevant. Also, regarding the meaning, how many people are looking up the meaning of other people’s names? And as someone mentioned in an earlier comment, the name actually dates back to Sumerian language which is the ORIGINAL meaning, and it means highly esteemed/valued. I think if you disregard any French aspects of this name (which aren’t even relevant), it’s really such a lovey name. I would happily name my child Calvin if I had a boy, and I would feel great to give him such a wonderful name!
Not bad.
It's good as a name, but I don't like the meaning. :(
I really like this name, I just wish it had a different meaning :(
Whitest Name Ever.
I honestly always think that Calvin is spelled like Kalvin, which I think looks better but I don't know...
I just think of Calvin Klein. And the meaning is hilarious.
Hey guys, I’m calling my kid bald. I mean it’s the greatest meaning I totally couldn’t have used such a prettier name or better meaning because this is what my child will be stuck with forever -_-
I am Calvin Bentley. Aka Mr C/ Mr Big man.
The name means loving. Strong. Not to mess with. Loyal. Religious. And the best name you will ever come across. Very rare and one of a kind. So to all you haters of the name Calvin. You just wish you was in the category of being one of a kind. Peace and love to you all.
First off, I am named Calvin, and have been for 70 years. I grew up in California where I disliked the name as it was "different" everyone else was named Dave or Mike. Later on in life I moved to the South (of the United States) where the name is more common. I have not done real research but my impression over the years is that Calvin is mainly a Southern name and used most often for African American males.
Calvin is the best name ever! But the meaning sucks.
I mean I'm completely neutral in this name, it's whatever, but the meaning is bad.
This name is cute and I'm really tired of everyone constantly saying a boy name can be used for girls. Girls have plenty of cute names can they just stick with those. Boy options are bleak.
Although Calvin is a classy and timeless boy’s name, who knows if a famous female model could pull this name off? Let’s say her name was Calvin Marie, and she was given a boyish name just because her parents wanted to be unique. I do think that these celebrities with masculine names normally turn out very feminine, and the middle names are the ones responsible for the feminine touch.
I don't like the meaning. The name itself is nice, it doesn't remind me of Snoop Dogg.
I kind of have mixed feelings towards this name, to be honest. I really don't like its meaning. I also really don't like the association it has with being Snoop Dog's real name. However, one of the first friends I have ever had was named this, so it's kind of hard for me to hate this name.
I personally hate the name Calvin, I put it in lowercase because I don't think the name deserves any respect in the slightest.
Don't like it... It sounds like a name of someone who won't get far in life.
I love this name and I’m not familiar with any of the above associations. I was born in the 1990s? My only association with the name is baseball. How about Hall of Famer Cal Ripken Jr. And of course his father Cal Ripken! The name screams baseball to me. However, I could see Calvin into technology or science too. This name could fit any personality in my opinion.
Calvin is my favorite boy name. If I have a child and it is a boy I'll name him Calvin.
I think Calvin is a great name, even if I do have it- because I do!
It's a wonderful name- it smells like bacon.
I think it sounds dumb and low-class, and of course there's the association with religious extremist John Calvin. Not to mention there's that annoying, trashy, binge-drinking DJ Calvin Harris (can't stand that guy at all).
Calvin is such a cool, handsome, HOT name for a guy. ;D.
Reminds me of John Calvin and Calvinism. I can't stand the name.
Reminds me of Calvin and Hobbes! If a kid was named this, they might get references to those comics, but probably not very often since most people their age won't know what they are. I really like this name, cal isn't too bad of a nickname either.
I hate this name. I don't like the -vin at the end, and knowing who the evil John Calvin was makes this name ridiculous.
This is my favorite name for a boy. It's a classic that isn't overly common and ages well, working for a little boy (thanks to Calvin and Hobbes) or an adult. It fits whatever your son grows up to be because it is both masculine but can also work for someone who's sort of indie. I love it.
My name is Calvin and I like it very much. It is actually a pretty rare name where I live (Brazil) though it always reminds people of Calvin and Hobbes.
Suddenly I'm totally in love with this name. It's so cool and masculine, and I love love love the nickname Cal. I'm not a religious person, but the so-called religious connotations of this name don't bother me, as I don't think such connotations are that strong at all. If I had a baby boy to name at this minute, I'd call him Calvin.
The religious history of the name, Calvin Klein, and the fact that this is Snoop Dogg's name are all contributing factors as to why I don't like the name.
There's something really cool about this name. I largely associate it with Calvin and Hobbes.
My brother's name is Kenneth Calvin Elvis. I like Calvin, and call the brother Kenneth Calvin a lot. To me it makes me think of a funny guy because of Calvin and Hobbes.
That's a nice name.
Calvin is a VERY nice name. I just don't like the definition.
Calvin is an awesome name for a boy. I should have used it for my hyperactive little boy.
This name strikes me as a name a very pretty female model could pull off. I like this very boyish name for a girl.
