I think Christopher is a wonderful name. It is strong, enduring, and ages with flawless grace. I love that it has “Christ” in it. I adore the meaning and the association with the patron saint, and I like the nickname “Christy.” Overall, I think Christopher is a beautifully timeless name.
Handsome, strong sounding masculine name. Doesn't matter if it's first name or middle name. Christopher as middle name pairs well with trendy baby boy names nowadays. It's a great name overall all even though it's a common name like John, Robert and Paul and Steven. Etc.
I spent my 63 years as Chris. BTE, I’ve been told it’s a powerful name.Given today's social environment between sex identification, I am now insisting on Christopher. It immediately identifies me as a male, not the ambiguity of Chris, hey, I didn’t start that fire I’m just dealing with it as it happened. That's a great reason to not accept Chris if you’re a male.
My father's name, wasn't very common when he was born, but now, the name became popular as the years went by.
I love this name! It's one of my favorite first names for boys! I like the nicknames Kit and Chris!
I love this name. I adopted a guinea pig called Christopher, he’s very sweet. I wouldn’t mind using this for a future son, too. There’s so many great associations, including Christopher Robin from Winnie the Pooh. It’s also a timeless biblical name, and super Christmassy!
This name should be left in the past. It makes me think of Christopher Plummer, who would be 93 if he were still alive. I prefer more modern names like Chase and Cody. I'm glad Christopher is becoming less popular because it was way too common. Another reason it bugs me is the religious connotation. I can see why most guys with this name prefer to be called Chris.
Outdated name.
Positive opinion. It's okay because it's such a nice, cool and strong name.
I like Kristofer better, but Christopher just looks like an old fairy tale or something, this should’ve been common in the 1800s rather than the 70s to present.
Yes, I know that it is overused but still an amazing name.
It's my middle name and I hate it. It's too long and a pain in the ass to write/type in forms. The 'h' and 'ph' look aesthetically ugly and is a waste of space; should have simply been - Cristofer - if anything. It's also annoying how most people just call you 'Chris' - another reason exemplifying why it's way too long. Personally I would've preferred "Kristian." Shorter, has a better ring to it, people don't shorten it to Chris. So much better IMO.
I think it sounds really handsome but I just can't see it on a child very well.
Handsome and regal.
I prefer Kristafer.
I named my daughter Krystaffa because my mother's name was Krystal and my father's middle name is Taffa. I think the name Christopher is very suitable for a girl.
This is a cool name. Christopher has a good nickname: Chris too.
I think it's a pretty cool name.
Common and boring name.
This name is strong, really masculine and classic, has history, has charm, while it's not of my favorites, anyway, Christopher is a classic, quality name.
Cristopher without the H is way better cause H’s are Ew!
I don’t care about the meaning because I’m not religious, however, it is a very nice name, Christoph is nice as a nickname.
I love this name and I would also use Chris as a nickname.
It has a nice, strong sound to it although I wouldn't use it due to it being quite outdated (70s and 80s) where I am from, it also automatically gets shortened to Chris. It was one of the most common names at my Catholic high school, along with James, Michael, Paul and Anthony.
It doesn’t sound that religious, what is up with you guys? It’s a very hot name!
Christopher is my name. For most of my life, I have gone by Christopher and have always preferred it that way. It can be tricky, however, when you meet new people. Often they will shorten it to Chris without asking. I should say that I don't mind being called Chris - but usually only close family call me that. If they do ask what my preference is (which surprisingly has happened often), I will always say "Christopher".It's one of the few names where we just assume the shorter nickname is preferred.
I noticed most people with this name usually go by Chris 99% of the time.
Christopher is a pleasant name that I enjoy hearing and it does offer a certain gentle quality that is balanced evenly by its “masculine” sound. It is a name which has a history that is far from recent and I do believe it could suit just about anybody, regardless of personality.
Christopher is a really great name for a boy. It’s handsome and masculine. Naming a girl Christopher is like naming a boy Princess. For a girl, I like Christine. Christopher is the name of my father. I don’t live with him anymore though, but I still like him. I respect parents who want to name their daughters Christopher, but it just doesn’t sound right for a girl at all! It’s a traditional male name and it must stay that way! Christopher is a classy timeless name. A boy with this name will age well. I might consider Christopher as a middle name for my future son. I can see why this name is so popular. I also like the nicknames Chris and Topher!
I love this name! It reminds me of Winnie the Pooh.
I love the name Christopher! It was my dad’s name. Those saying Christopher can be used as a girl’s name are not in trouble. It’s just strange. I never thought of Christopher as a girl’s name. It’s always been masculine to me. Come to think of it, I kinda like Christopher as a girl’s name too, but it’s way more masculine to me. This is my fresh comment for Christopher after my first one said something else. Christopher is unique for a girl but not Christine for a boy. Christopher is okay for a girl, but it’s really beautiful for a boy. That’s not to say I hate the name for a girl, I don’t, but it’s always struck me as masculine mainly. In my two name books, it would have Christopher in both boy and girl sections and Christine in the girl book only.
My name is Chris and I want to say that the name Chris is the most masculine name I've ever heard.
Users who are saying that Christopher can be a female name are somewhat correct. But I don’t think Christine, Christina, or Christiana would suit a male. Personally I wouldn’t name my daughter Christopher because it’s my dads name and I’m so used to it being masculinity acceptable, but it doesn’t hurt a female 100%. But a boy Christine, hmm!
Certainly very macho, but sissy Chrissy would be a dreadful nickname.
It's my friend's name and it is classy.
My mother named me Christopher Ryan, for the fact my mom's best friend had her son first and named him Ryan. So I got Christopher. It was going to be Christopher Robin, but I dodged a bullet on that one.
I always liked this name for a boy. I like the shortened form 'Chris' and the full name.
I named my baby boy Christopher in 1970. Shortly after that it rose to be quite popular. I remember I hadn't named him until after birth, and I just looked at him and knew his name should be Christopher. I used the nickname Chris which he used too. I liked the name and still do. It means "Christ's bearer".
I am named Christopher and I am the eldest with 3 sisters. As a young age they struggled with the full name Christopher. My eldest sister called me Topher and my youngest sister called me Snoff, which my partner found cute and has called me so for the past 15 years. I think the name is a good, strong name. I will be using Kester as a middle name for my son (as my partner is half Scottish), hitting 2 birds with 1 stone so both parents are covered, quite a masculine name too.
I would definitely use this name for my future son either as a first or middle name. My dad's name was Christopher.
It's a good, strong name and one of the better "classics," but I still think it's too overused and I dislike the inevitable nickname Chris.
Ralph Wiggum:"Topher makes me think of gopher." :)
I usually just say, "My name is Chris, but you can call me Christopher", a twist on "My name is Christopher, but you can call me Chris".
My boyfriend's name is Christopher, but I call him Chris. I prefer that over Christopher. Christopher sounds too old fashioned to me.
Master 7 was named after his Uncle Chris. Thank God because he was destined to be a Dante - yuk! I have been asked many a time over the years why we didn't spell it Kristofer - the Russian form, I believe. Because he was NAMED after someone, I don't like the alternative spellings and Christopher is such a traditional name it shouldn't be spelt any other way!
With the nicknames Chris (like crisp) and Chip, the name really just makes me hungry.
Christopher is a handsome, sophisticated, classic name. I love this name! I'd definitely name my son this! :D.
VERY common but VERY decent.
Despite its popularity, I still love this name. I can understand its popularity, which is something I can't say about too many names these days. If you want to use this name but are hesitant because it's so common, just call him Christopher or even Kit instead of Chris, and his life will be a lot less confusing!
I know quite a few people named Christopher, and they all go by Chris. I understand why, since Christopher is a really long name, but Christopher sounds better to me. I've never seen anyone over 40 with this name, although I'm sure there's plenty of them out there.
This name is incredibly popular but I actually like it. It's got a nice, strong sound to it. However I don't like the nickname 'Chris', the full name sounds much better (everyone I know with this name uses the nickname, however.)
My name is Christopher. In my opinion I've got a great name, but the problem is it's too common. Too many people have the name Christopher who don't deserve it.
I'd rather be named Satanus, than Christopher...
Christopher is a terrible, awful name for someone who wants to be free of the societal dogma and think independently.
@angolmois, Are you atheist losers so sad and pathetic, you have to vent your hatred of religion on a NAMING website?
Nice, classic boys name.
Lately, I've been really liking the name Christopher. I tend to like older names that have a traditional/classic sound to it.
I am expecting my second child (first boy) and love traditional names which can easily be shortened into multiple nicknames. The name Christopher Anderson is what I'm leaning towards, believing a name says a lot about a person and their traits. I've known many "Christopher"s throughout my life and every single one of them has been nice, considerate, and liked by all who meet them (not to mention attractive). I LOVE the name and the people I associate it with... and LOVE the nickname Topher, I never would've thought of that :-)
I am sick and tired of people using MY name for their children! Christopher happens to be MY name and it's too common and there are lots of people who have MY name who don't deserve it!
I just want to say that nobody has a copyright to their name, and that anybody can use any name they like without your permission.
I like this name and I like the nickname Chris, But I DESPISE the nickname Topher, I swear it looks like a nickname some stupid hipster would give their child, trying to be original or some crap like that. HATE IT.
It reminds me of greediness. Like crisp stuffer or something.
This is my son's name. I think it's classic, masculine and wonderful. Didn't care that it was a popular name. To me, that is a silly reason to not give a name you love to your child.
It's a nice name, but definitely overused.
Christ stop her!
Ugly name.
Overused? I've never known a Christopher and I don't even see it in print that often. How about Tyler, Jayden, or Ian? Now that's overused.
Were I a boy called Christopher, I wouldn't want to be called Topher. Because no matter how you say it, it's gonna sound like either tofu or tosser.
I like this name a lot for a boy. Partly because a couple of my past boyfriends had this name. But I think it's because I just like the name itself.
I've always associated this name with Winnie the Pooh and I consider this a positive association. :P Kit is a lovely nickname, it's less common than Chris.
This is my name. I don't think it suits me at all, as it normally reminds me of a teenage, party going sort of person. I still love the sound of my name and am glad my mother named me this, though I feel Edward would suit me much more.
Ugh. This name is WAY too common. Every second boy's name is Christopher, and it's always shortened to the unoriginal nickname Chris. I'll pass. There are plenty of other names out there.
Now, it's not that I dislike the name per se, but it's overused. I also hate the nickname Chris, and I'm not crazy about Topher either.
My name is Christopher and when I was little and people called me "Chris" my mom would correct them and say "'Topher." And my dad started calling me Topher. But I prefer Christopher over all of them but most people won't call me Christopher because they say it's too long to say. But I say that's a bunch of bullcrap.
I love this name, it sounds so beautiful. Common maybe, but I just love it.
I like and hate this name. I associate it with Christopher Paolini, whom I hate for so blatantly ripping off so many books, without even trying to change them or 'make them his', so to speak. So, yeah. I wouldn't use it, but I don't hate it. It's quite nice, actually.
Topher as a nickname? Sorry everyone who mentioned that, but I just don't think that sounds normal. Shorten it to Chris, and if you really hate it just get another name.
My name is Christopher and I can't stand being called Chris. There were 1500 or more students at my high school and I think 300 of them answered to Chris/Kris, not just the Ch/Kristopers but also the Christians, Ch/Kristines, Ch/Kristabelles, Ch/Kris-this Ch/Kris-that. All of us refused to answer to Chris before leaving school and I still won't.
This is a very nice name. I like the meaning. Even though it is a common and long name, I still like it. Most people that I know with this name go by "Chris". I like that nickname. If your name is Christopher and you think it is too formal, you can shorten it to "Chris" or even "Topher".
I don't personally like "Christopher" but I think that "Chris" is amazing. It's attractive.
I love the name Christopher. If I were a boy, my name would have been either Ryan Christopher or Robert Christopher, so if I ever have a boy I'm planning on giving them the middle name Christopher as well.
I avoid common names like the plague, and though it doesn't get much more common than "Chris", Christopher is still a beautiful name. I really do love the name in the aesthtic sense, and while I'm not into Biblical names either, this one does have something very noble and good about it. Christopher is a great name.
I love this name and meaning of it is so nice. I gave this name to my first son and spelt it Kristopher. He is 15 now and loves his name. He goes by Kris. It is often spelt wrong but he doesn't care. The name Christopher is a timeless classic.
I actually love this as a girls' name.
Weird. It doesn't seem very feminine to me. The only thing that makes it remotely feminine is a sort of similarity to Jennifer--three syllables, emphasis on the first, and the 'fer/pher' ending. However, there is absolutely no etymological connection. I'd hate this as a girls' name, I admit.
Christopher as a girls' name? Uhmmm ... how about not?
I was supposed to be named Christopher, had I been a boy. This will definitely be my first son's name. Should I ever have a son, that is.
