Meaning & History

From Greek Γανυμηδης (Ganymedes), which was possibly derived from γανυμαι (ganymai) meaning "to be glad" and μηδομαι (medomai) meaning "to think, to plan". In Greek mythology this was the name of a beautiful boy who was abducted by Zeus to become the cupbearer to the gods, the successor of Hebe. A moon of Jupiter is named after him.
