It is very popular but for good reason. It's an adorable little boy name that ages well and also suits an adult.

I kind of think this name is hot now.

When I first saw this name, I thought it meant "son of Mary". I have no idea why.

This name could be very good if:
1) It didn't sound similar to the Arabic name, Maysam.
2) It was not this oversaturated
3) it wasn't about Freemasons and Illuminati.

I just think of Mason Jars.

I think Mason is a really cool name for either gender. I think Maci would be a cute nickname for a girl, and Mace for a boy.

I changed my name to Mason when I was 15, and I've received far more compliments on my chosen name than I EVER received on my birth name (Megan). I picked it because of its increasing popularity as a unisex name, the fact that it had the exact same number of letters as my birth name, and it allowed me to keep my initials - it seemed like the perfect choice! Every time I tell someone my name, they tell me they love it, and I love being able to respond with, "Thanks, I picked it myself."

I use Maisy as a nickname, my mom uses Mace for me (occasionally Mace Windu, due to a persistent love of Star Wars in my family). I am eternally grateful to my 15 year old self for listening to my friend's criticism when I was planning on spelling it 'Maison', telling me they could never take me seriously if I named myself 'house'. I have to agree, not a fan of the meaning, but hey, when everything else works for me, I can look over its less-than-endearing definition.

I'm a 17 year old girl named Mason and I hated it for most of my life because 100% of the time I introduced myself to ANYONE they'd tell me "they've never met a girl named Mason" or "that's not usually a girl's name" or my personal favorite "that's a boy name."
When I was 11 I switched schools and started introducing myself as Macy. Everyone to this day calls me Macy and I've gotten used to it. But now when people figure out my name (especially people around my age) they ALWAYS compliment it. It feels nice. So at this point, I honestly like both ways and I introduce myself to different people with different names haha I literally just made an account to make this comment. Shout out to the lady who said Mason is a cool girl's name "especially with the nickname Macy".

I'm a girl, I hated my previous name because of associations. I picked this name for myself partially because it's the real name of one of the characters in Gravity Falls Mason "Dipper" Pines. I think it's gender neutral but damn some of the people on here are aggressive about their opinions. Like chill out "this name is terrible and worse on girls whoever would name their kid this is an idiot" like you realize there are people with this name right? In my opinion, this name seems more like a surname than a given name.

I've never been very fond of the whole "surnames as first names" trend (other than maybe Jackson); but I think the rise in popularity of Mason - particularly in the U.S. - is less connected with its use as a surname or occupation (or... Freemasons), and more with its similarity to Jason. Jason used to be hugely popular, and it seems like people got tired of Jason, but there was this similar name just lying there, so parents gravitated toward it. I predict the same will happen with Aidan and all its sound-alike names; people will get tired of hearing it, and all of a sudden we'll see a bunch of little Adrians running around.

I don't particularly like this one. I'm not sure why, as it's a perfectly good name, aside from being incredibly tryndee and rather immature sounding. I think the name Mason is nice. Whether people choose to spell it Mayson, Masen Masin is irrelevant if you like the name and you choose it it's completely up to you and everyone else comments shouldn't make a difference! I love the name Mason. My twenty year old son is named Mason and ever since he came into this world I nicknamed him Mace. He will forever be my "Mace".
These comments are interesting. My belief is "to each their own" and unfortunately we are given a name when we come into this world and it is never our own choosing unless we choose to change it legally when we are older.
With that, as children we are always vulnerable to kids being mean regardless of our name. Mean kids will be mean kids because it stems from issues within the kid who chooses to be mean. It is important to explain this to your child. It is not you or your name, it is the mean kid looking for attention because their foundation is very unsteady.
I love the variety of names that I seem to hear more of lately. When I hear an unusual name, I assume there is a meaning;a reason; a story; that is important to the parent and is the reason for naming their child that particular name.
But regardless, we are more than just our name. Kinda like a title to a book, which is really irrelevant because it's understanding what's in the inside that matters most.

I think that this name is used way too much, especially in English-speaking countries, and should never be used for girls.

Pushing the negative associations aside (and, believe me, the list is nearly endless... it's trendiness is only the surface of the quandary), I think that Mason has an amiable, warm sound to it. It is handsome and durable, but simultaneously young, peripheral, and childlike (which, in my opinion, is unfavorable, and should be considered by parents looking at the name).

We named our son Seth Mason. It's a handsome strong name for a handsome strong man. And no, in the 23 years he's had this name, no-one's ever mentioned Mason jars. Anyway, most people I know who use Mason jars don't find them silly or funny at all. Like their namesake, they are simple, strong and useful.
