[Opinions] Brigitte and Liv
1. BrigitteOkay, so this is a big deal because I really don't like B names. So, I was watching the Ginger Snaps trilogy and at some point I noticed the sister's name was spelled Brigitte and I was like "no they pronounce it like Bridget, why did they spell it that way?" I was very displeased. But upon having thought about it, I think I like Brigitte, but only prn Bri-JEEt. No D sound. WDYT of it, and do you have any combo ideas for me? [I would be more likely to use it as a MN but I'd love to see ideas for either].
2. Liv So one day I was looking for Norse names [my boyfriend's Norse, and I have all these Hebrew names on my list, so I thought I'd explore his roots too] and I really don't like any of them. Except Liv. I rather like Liv. Except I have a lot of trouble pronouncing it LEEV. I have to say LIHV. Like short from Olivia. So...do you think that pronounciation is okay as a full name? I THINK [but am not sure] that LIHV is the prn most non-namenerds would use anyway. Also, do you think Liv could be a name on it's own in the US? Could it work as a MN?And also WDYT of it and combo ideas for it as well.
Thanks in advance ♥ (oh and which one do you like better? I'm going to add one of them to my PNL because I'm being all anal about it and I like having an even amount of boy and girl names, so until I find another good boy name, I can only add one)

Brigitte makes me think of Brigitte Bardot. She's not a very nice person, so I wouldn't use it myself.A lot of Americans will probably think of Liv Tyler when Liv is used on its own, though there's nothing wrong with that. It sounds too much like "live" for me to use, though.

Liv leaves me wanting more to be honest. It's like, it's over? really? So I like Brigitte better.Brigitte Alix
Brigitte Ismene

Brigitte Pearl
Brigitte Philomena
Brigitte SaveriaDiana Brigitte
Fenella Brigitte
Leonie Brigitte
Sophia Brigitte
Tova Brigitte
Solveig Brigitte (There you go...something Scandavian...sort of :P)I think I might have completely missed the mark there, because (as you said) you're into Hebrew names...and I'm not LOL. Anything you like?

I have had a bit of a fling with Brigitte lately, I have been naming the sons of a man who only ... reproduces with French women. And his first wife went off after she was done with him and married a lawyer whose name keeps changing, but their kids names and surname always stays the same. Their names are Brigitte and Alexandre DuPre. I get so tickled.I think Liv's okay in America, its how most people would pronounce it. It's cool. Liv Persephone jumps to mind - of course.

I love Brigitte, both the French ("bri-ZHEET") and the German ("bri-GHEE-tuh") pronunciations. I think you are going more for the French version, so I can pass along a wonderful combo I met in real life: Brigitte Camille. I never used to like the name camille until I saw it in this combination. (That's the mark of a great combo, to me.)I'm as name-nerdy as it gets and I pronounce Liv as "liv." I know it should be pronounced "leev" but I can only see that pronunciaiton coming off as pretentious in the real work. Some names just sound different in different languages and there's no point swimming against the stream. Other names I would make the effort. But not with Liv. (Go figure.)I will not choose between the two until you end your petty, illegal and discriminatory listing practices. Hmphf. (Tongue set squarely in cheek.) Why limit yourself? I just don't get that at all. Doesn't a shorter list hamper your ability to make suggestions / combinations?

The list...I have an excel sheet with ALL the names I like [including ones I'm thinking about, which has both Liv and Brigitte on it], but for some reason I like having an even amount on my BTN list. I dunno, I like seeing an even number up in my corner. And if I want to offer combo help, it's so not helpful to have waaaay more of one gender name than of the other gender. (but if you're really worried about it, you can suggest a boy name for me ;])

Tut, tut. All is right under the heavens. Now that I know you have a broad-minded, all-embracing, kumbaya of a name list I can sleep soundly tonight.

I love Liv. I used to be my number one name, and I still love it. I think the pronunciation 'LIV' is the only one that would work in English-speaking countries. Also, I figure if the name sounds like an English word, I'd much rather be calling 'live' than 'leave'.. that could be confusing.I like Brigitte (pronounced brih-GEE-tuh), too. I much prefer it to Bridget.Liv Alexandra
Liv Cassandra
Liv Persephone
Brigitte Maude
Brigitte Esmée
Brigitte Jane
