[Opinions] Philippa?
I used to hate this name but I've heard it a lot on TV shows lately (mostly those featuring British royalty, as it seems to be the name of Kate Middleton's sister) and it has grown on me so much that I really like it now. Do you like it? Would you use it? Do you think it's better as a FN or MN? Any combo ideas?
A combo I like: Sarah Philippa

I think it's just peachy. Pippa is a doll of a NN.

I was at school with a couple of Philippas, both very nice girls indeed so I grew up thinking it was normal and lovely. Both went by Pippa, but I think the longer form is more usual now. Rhythm-wise, I'd prefer Philippa Sarah, though a lot depends on the ln and I'm no fan of Sarah.Philippa Margaret
Philippa Jane
Philippa Lindsey
Philippa Damaris

Philippa used to be in my top ten, and I still like it. I just like other names more. :)I probably wouldn't use it but only because I do have other names that I like a bit better. There's nothing wrong with the actual name. Maybe I'd still consider it as a mn.Philippa works really well as both a fn and a mn.

I've come to love Philippa too. It took a while and the darling nn Pippa helped out a lot. But in the end what convinced me was the light, airy, staccato quality of it. It's so much fun to say out loud. It's the same bouncy joy I get from Winifred, Hilary and Cecily.Sarah puts me to sleep, sorry. She's better than any made-up name. It's just that I'd prefer something else. How about:Philippa Ines
Philippa Alix
Philippa Marion
Philippa Leonie ("LEE-uh-nee" or "LAY-uh-nee")
Philippa Tess
Philippa Charlotte (I love feminized male names together)
Philippa Eugenie
Philippa Sinead
Philippa Winter
Philippa Sonnet
Philippa Mavis
Philippa Lois
Philippa Verity
Philippa Marjorie
Philippa Damaris

I like it, and Sarah Philippa is very nice. I have a friend called Philippa who's usually known as Flip, and my cousin has it as a middle name, as her father is Philip. There was also someone on the German side of my family called Philippina - I'm guessing that's not common in Germany now?

Philippa has always been in use but it has never been common. Philippina is so rare over here that I have never heard of anyone with that name but there obviously is at least one Philippina ;)
I have heard of Flip as a NN for Philippa on a German TV show and thought it was quite nice.

I respect Philippa, but I wouldn't say I like it. It's very, very British and upper-crust. There's nothing wrong with that, but a girl named Phillipa would be completely out-of-place in my family.

I actually considered Philippa/Filippa for a moment for our baby; love it but then thought it too aristocratic to use :-) But I still keep coming back to it... We're most likely having a boy, though.

I really like this typically "boarding school" name, with nn "Pippa" (so much more stylish and enduring than Piper).
Philippa Eleanor
Philippa Iris
Philippa Rosamond
are my favourite combos

I really like it. I've only met one in my whole life. However I hate the nickname Pippa. Sarah Philippa flows well but Sarah is not my style. I like Sara Philippa, though.

I like it, mostly as a first name.

I still like it but I used to love it. However I prefer Filippa which is more popular here in Sweden (#39 in 2008). Philippa Annora
Philippa Anne
Philippa Noelle
Philippa Joan
Philippa Adele
Shea Philippa
Gemma Philippa
Augusta Philippa
Karissa Philippa
Mathilde Philippa
Morgan PhilippaEdit: I wouldn't use the nn Pippa. Here it's a slang for "have sex with".

Oh, thanks for the heads-up! I didn't know. So I'm not gonna use Pippa as a NN in Sweden :) Btw, that's funny cause "Pipi" (pronounced like Pippi in Pippi Longstocking) is a word kids use for pee in German ;)
So both Pippa and Pippi could be very inappropriate NNs depending on where you live.I like Philippa Anne, Philippa Joan & Philippa Adele.

I like it. It sounds classy and timeless & fits a girl/woman of any age. I think it works both as a FN and MN. I know one Philippa, 8 yrs. old. Her sister's name is Mathilde. Philippa Clare
Philippa Elise
Philippa June
Philippa Marie

Phillipa & Mathilde (or Matilda) make a great sibset, so sweet!
I like Philippa Elise & Philippa Marie.

I used to hate it as well, but then my aunt named my cousin this so I sort of had to change my mind lolNow I quite like it, esp the nn Pippa (which is what my cousin goes by)I quite like Sarah Philippa, but I think I'd prefer something that ends in a 'e' sound like Chloe Philippa or Hermione Philippa

Pippa is a cute NN!
I agree on the 'e' thing but I'm not a fan of Chloe and would use Hermione only as a MN because of the Harry Potter connection :)
