[Opinions] Petra
Petra is a name I've always like a great deal so as I've recently been editing my top 10 list I've decided to try Petra out and see if I can make a nice combo with it. Here are combos I've been thinking about:
Petra Anne
Petra Annelise
Petra Cecily
Petra Dorothy - would honor a dear friend
Petra Eloise
Petra Felicity
Petra Liberty
Petra Lucy
Petra Margaret - would honor a dear friend
Petra Mary - would honor a great-grandmother
Petra Melody - would honor a dear friend
Petra Opal
Petra Rose - not very original but maybe pretty?
Petra Ruby - my birthstone
Petra Ruth - would honor a great-grandmotherWhich of these combos do you like best? Are there any that don't work at all? Based on the middle names I'm considering what other Petra combos would you suggest? What to you think of Petra in general? Pretty, spunky, ugly or too cutesy? Thanks! :)

Love it so much!! I don't really like Petra with 'r' names in the middle.Petra Margaret is gorgeous. I also really like Petra Felicity and Petra Mary. Petra Anneliese would also be pretty. How about Petra Eleanor or Petra Beatrice?

Petra has really grown on me over the past year or so. I think it's spunky and not too cutesy. It has substance and charm.Petra Anne - It works, but Anne is very plain as a middle name. How about Petra Annabel / Annabelle?
Petra Annelise - Pretty.
Petra Cecily - The first two syllables of both names contain a short "e" sound, so it sounds a tad redundant, but it still works. I like both names.
Petra Dorothy - I'm not a fan of Dorothy, but it works well with Petra.
Petra Eloise - Nice flow. I don't really care for Eloise because it reminds me of the word "wheeze", but it's decent.
Petra Felicity - Lovely. This one is my favorite out of your Petra combos.
Petra Liberty - Nice flow. I wouldn't have paired Petra and Liberty together
Petra Lucy - Lucy sounds better with Petra than Lucinda, Lucina, Luciana, etc. even though I prefer them over Lucy in general. Petra Lucille would work, but I prefer Lucy to Lucille.
Petra Margaret - This flows well. I'm not a fan of Margaret myself, but it's nice that you're honoring a friend. It gives the combo more meaning.

I just might steal Petra Valerie for a poll. :-)

Peter is my #1 favorite for a boy. So I'm predisposed to like / love Petra as well. It's just the sort of underrated classic that I love seeing reborn. It's known, but not overly used. And it has a gorgeous sound. What's not to like / love? :-)My stock combinations for it are Petra Vivien and Petra Linden. From your list I'm loving:Petra Dorothy
Petra Lucy
Petra Margaret (would Petra Margot be of interest?)
Petra MelodyI wouldn't use a mn that starts with an "r." It's too close to the "r" in Petra.

The only Petra I've ever heard of was a college roommate of my sister's, but she went by Peach. Peach is what everyone called her, except her mother, who called her Petra, so evidently Peach was a nickname that she chose herself and wasn't bestowed upon her by her parents. There had to be something about Petra that she didn't like.

Peter is such a handsome name! I'm liking Petra more and more now, even though it is the feminine form of Peter it does have a gorgeous sound! :)Petra Margot is of interest, I really like it. Usually I like Margot better than Margaret but I was thinking of that to honor an elderly Alzheimer's patient I cared for recently, she and her daughter were very special to me. Thanks for the comment! :)

When it comes down to it, I don't think I'd ever use Petra... but I do really like it on others.I like the lightness and contrast of Petra Cecily and Petra Felicity, Petra Dorothy is kind of cute and Petra Rose is indeed very unoriginal, but quite lovely.

I know what you mean, it's one of those names that lovely to hear being used by others but not one I've ever considered seriously myself. At this time I'm a few years away from even thinking about having kids so I thought recently since I've always like Petra that I'd add it to my top 10 and see if it grows on me a bit more. Thanks for your comment, it was quite helpful! :)

Thanks for your comments on the combos! I'm certainly re-thinking all of the R and A middle name for Petra, they either run together or just sound odd like you said. Thanks for your suggestions, I like all of the names you mentioned but Petra Helen and Petra Louise stand out to me the most. There's and aunt and a great aunt in my family that have Louise in their name so it might work.

It's spunky... I hear that Croatians have a real soft spot for this name as seen by popularity rankings there.

I don't care for Petra, it's sort of common or at least well known where I live and I wouldn't consider it stylish or classy considering the Petras Ive met.

Petra Eloise is lovely!
