Help[Opinions] Opinions on Circe?
I pronounce Circe as SIR-see, which is the anglicized pronunciation. If I were in Greece I would use Kirke (pronounced KEER-kuh), but I feel like if I used it in the states she would get called Kirk all the time and mistaken for a man on paperwork.
Aside from pronunciation issues, my main concern for Circe is whether it's usable at all. Circe from mythology is seen as a wicked temptress (like Eve, but pagan and magical), in both literature and popular culture. Plus, with the "A Song of Ice and Fire" book series (and the TV adaptation "Game of Thrones") we have Cersei Lannister, who is... a crazy b*tch.
So... what do people think of Circe as a name? My current combo is Circe Eloise, but I'm open to other suggestions.

I adore Circe! It's sprightly and jaunty but also mystical and brooding. I'm all about flouting conventionally pejorative interpretations of mythological, biblical, and literary figures, so I think the association with the sorceress is a boon, not a blight.

I think this is too unusual and "difficult" to use in the U.S. Most people would not have the first clue about this name, unfortunately. She would be in for a lifetime of explanation.

I love mythology but Circe is not a good association, so I think it's unusable. I love the look of it, but your pronunciation just makes me think of Xerxes, which is a name I really dislike. I'd use the Anglicised spelling and the Greek pronunciation but I live in the Netherlands, and that's a more obvious pronunciation here.
The Kirk thing is an issue, though. Maybe that will still happen if you just use Circe.

I like Circe. I had it on my PNL on my previous stint here, but it came off because its something I wouldn't end up using personally, but I would like seeing on someone else's kid.
I don't think its too out there. I see a lot of god and goddess names lately and with the popularity of those types of movies I don't see it ending any time soon.

For me this name is either Kirke or nothing at all. Circe is nearly a circle when I look at it. You're worried about Kirk? I'd worry about her being Sir C.
I'd avoid MNs that start with an E, since Circe already ends in an E.
Giving the combos a shot anyway :P

I am a lover of difficult mythology names on real people. If everyone was called Apollo, Zeus, and Aphrodite, I wouldn't mind.
But Circe? She's quite well-known as a villain. If that doesn't bother you (it wouldn't me) than go for it. The only thing stopping me is that a lot of modern writing includes the Big Bad named Circe. Such as the Gemma Doyle trilogy I just finished reading so is still fresh on my mind.
Kirke would never work in the states. The kid would be telling everyone the right way all the time and is so close to an already established male name that it would be difficult to overcome. But the Kirke pronunciation is warming up nicely to me.
