[Opinions] Amber
Does anyone here like Amber? I used to dislike it, but now it's grown on me. Unfortunately, every Amber I met growing up was a little witch. Thoughts? Combo ideas? I feel like it easily lends itself to combos. Willoughby wolloughby willina, an elephant sat on Billina.

I've always loved this name. I'm not even sure what it is about it that I like, I'm just always pleased to hear it. My partner unfortunately thinks it sounds dated and that seems to be a common reaction when I have asked people about it.

I suppose I'm a bit biased when it comes to this name. Amber is the name of my youngest cousin. So I immediately think of her. And I never garnered any bad associations. I've known 2 other Ambers and I never had a problem with either of them.
I know how it feels to like a name and have everyone you meet with that name to be a ___ (insert any phrase you please)

How many Rachels are on this board? (I'm not a Rachel, but it seems to be really popular here)

I don't mind the name Amber, but I think it's overused. I think I'd prefer it as a middle in the right combo. I like the imagery of the name.

It's tainted for me too. I've never liked it though. Not really sure what was ever appealing about it.

I love it and have since I was a teenager in the 1970s. I love its golden brown color. It was actually the first name I had picked out for a daughter. But the Popularity Train came a-rolling down the track and dashed that plan.

It is a nice name to make combos with, you're right. I think because you can have a nice vowel beginning mn without them running into each other. I wasn't crazy about it before I met my cousin's daughter (second cousin? first cousin once removed? who knows), but she is absolutely adorable (if a little strong willed - she IS only two though). It really suits her. She's a very friendly little girl; one of her favourite things to do is sit by the window in her living room. When someone approaches she says 'hiya' and as they go by she says 'see ya'. So cute. I would share a picture of her but I'm not very good at that!

Honestly I think of Jurassic Park! That's a cool association I guess. But I also think of Amber Alerts. :(I don't think either of these associations are bad enough of an argument against Amber, but I still don't really like the sound of the name. I can't put my finger on why, but I've always found it unappealing. It's almost... too full, or something?

I feel like it's one of those names I can appreciate more when I isolate it from its societal context. It's pretty decent sound-wise but has become totally bleh to me due to its popularity in my age group. I can see it having a resurgence in popularity in about 50 years, much as a lot of 'old lady' names are having now.I think something with a similar feel, like Bramble or Ambra (okay I made that one up) would be neat to see used in real life.If I were forced to name a daughter Amber I'd give her a zesty middle name like Amber Ophelia or Amber Celestia.Edit: Lol I like that Ambra turned out to be a real name

It's grown on me a bit as I've gotten older - I otherwise like word names in general. But The main Amber I knew was a bully so I could never use it.

It's alright, but I've never personally cared for the sound. It isn't very glamorous seeming ... it's sort of like Lisa, but younger. And the word tends to be used to describe the color of yellow warning lights and glues, rather than, say, teas or suntans, so it doesn't seem naturey enough to me. But, it's a pleasant enough name.I can't think of any good combos with Amber in the first spot! Hmm. burra, burray, burb, burk, burd ... going through the alphabet for letters that follow bur okayAmber Cecily
Amber Demetria
Amber Hallie
Amber Iva
Amber Suzanne
Amber Winona
Amber Vida

I don't enjoy gemstone names - they all seem pretentious. No combos then, but I can give you a real-life sibset: Amber and her brother Jade!
