https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sloane_Ranger: "Considered typical of SRs was patriotism and traditionalism, and a belief in the values of upper class and upper-middle class culture, confidence in themselves and their given places in the world, a fondness for life in the countryside, country sports in particular, philistinism and anti-intellectualism."Or, from Anne of the Island:"But what could you expect of a Sloane, as Mrs. Rachel Lynde would ask scornfully? Charlie's whole attitude, tone, air, words, fairly reeked with Sloanishness. "He was conferring a great honor -- no doubt whatever about that. And when Anne, utterly insensible to the honor, refused him, as delicately and considerately as she could -- for even a Sloane had feelings which ought not to be unduly lacerated -- Sloanishness still further betrayed itself. Charlie certainly did not take his dismissal as Anne's imaginary rejected suitors did. Instead, he became angry, and showed it; he said two or three quite nasty things; Anne's temper flashed up mutinously and she retorted with a cutting little speech whose keenness pierced even Charlie's protective Sloanishness and reached the quick; he caught up his hat and flung himself out of the house with a very red face; Anne rushed upstairs, falling twice over Miss Ada's cushions on the way, and threw herself on her bed, in tears of humiliation and rage. Had she actually stooped to quarrel with a Sloane? Was it possible anything Charlie Sloane could say had power to make her angry? Oh, this was degradation, indeed -- worse even than being the rival of Nettie Blewett!"

It’s beyond ugly, sorry.

I dislike strongly Sloane - it reminds me of the words slow and sloth - and I don't think Sloane Miriam work well together - the n and m clash.

I like it for some reason. I think it needs to go with a frilly sounding name. Sloane Mirabella?

Thoroughly unattractive-sounding. If it is a family surname, then using it as a mn would keep the tradition alive while not jumping on the lnfn-unisex bandwagon.Sloane Miriam? I could happily live with Miriam Sloane.

I like it alright, but not Miriam. And the combo strikes me as odd, like the two names just doesn't go together.Maybe;Sloane Josephine
Sloane Emilia
Sloane Sophie
Sloane Margaret
Sloane Daisy

There was a girl named Sloane in my high school class. As she was in my class, she would have been born no earlier than 1959 and no later than 1961, so this was long before the surnames on girls craze. I remember being taken aback by her name. There were a few other girls in my class who had names that weren't very popular when we were born, such as Celeste, Helen, Bernadette, and Mimi, but Sloane was different in a different way. Not in a "You don't hear that much anymore" way. It was a "WTF" way.I think it's terribly ugly.

I think Sloane is one of the ugliest names I've ever heard. Not that I like it for a boy either, but I don't like it for a girl at all.

Don’t care for it, it looks very preppy and Waspy.

Hi !!!Sloane?
Uhm.. It reminds me slow, slot and snail. It is a surname plus it ultimately means "raid". I've not any famous bearer in my mind. No links at all.So.. just not my cup of tea.Sloane Miriam? Just ok. Unfortunately as I dislike Sloane every MN would sound strange close to it.

Sorry, but I consider Sloane to be one of the ugliest names for a girl I've ever come across. The "Sl" sound at the beginning is particularly off putting. I really like Miriam, but the combo is kind of mismatched and awkward.

I dislike Sloane. I think the sound is unpleasant - reminds me of toad - and it also sounds pretentious in a way I dislike. Miriam is lovely.
