What do you think of the name Alexis for a boy?

This name is one of my newer favorites (as with many other "unisex" names, I prefer it as a boy's name).

Something I discovered when I looked at the SSA stats is that unlike many of the other boy-turned-girl names that became popular on girls, Alexis has remained fairly popular (in the 100s) for boys in the U.S. for the past several years. I love it for a boy. It's one of my favourites too :) I'm glad it's in the 100s on the popularity list, it's not popular for either gender here in England. I've only met one girl named Alexis and no boys.

I like Alexis for either, although I slightly prefer it on a boy & Alexa or Alexia on a girl. OT: my great-neice's name is Alexis & her step-brother's name is Alex. THAT has to cause some confusion, lol.

I like this on a boy, but i much prefer Alexei / Aleksy etc. only because i think of 'trendy moms' and their trendy daughters called Alexis and has totally put me off the name. Its disgusting on a girl.

I still perfer Alexis for a girl, and Alec or Alex for a boy, but Alexis does work for a boy.

I like Alexis for a boy. The fact that it still tanks (and in the 100s, no less) for boys is very encouraging. I wouldn't let its popularity among girls prevent you from using it.

Exactly what Adelle said- it's both, click on the hyperlink! It was a guy's name, now more popular as a girl's name.

Back to the original question... It could be used on both, but for a guy, I prefer Alexius, and for a girl, Alexia.

I don't suffer from insanity. I enjoy every minute of it.

Alexis is a fairly popular girl's name. I wouldn't use it on a boy, as he might be teased.

Actually, Alexis is both a male and female name. I believe it was used as a male name before it was a "girl" name. Click the link to the name, and you'll see: Alexis. Same thing happened to Shannon, Vivian, Marion, Kelly, Madison, etc. They were all boy's names, but they became so common with girls that parents shy away from using them for boys, but they can be. Alexis is actually ranked 133 in popularity for US boy's names and even higher in other countries, so it is still widely used for boys.

Edited to add in answer to the original question: I think it's fine for a boy, but I don't particularly like it for either.

This is one name, that I hate on both genders! BUT IF I had to see it I rather see it on a boy, even though I think it's totally female sounding. On a girl I just think of a prostitue or some one who is a bully, and sleeping around a lot..why I don't know.

I love it. It sounds very masculine to me, and I've always found it attractive for a boy.

Love it for a boy, can't even picture it on a girl. It's just not used on girls where I live. I find it very elegant and strong, yet somewhat sophistocated.
