Help[Opinions] Lara.
I've begun turning my name list upside down, mainly because I just can't see many of my names on children. While I know they won't be children for long, it still bothers me. I've begun looking at other names, and Lara popped up. I love it.
I know the sound is a bit trendy, but so be it. What do you guys think?
Lara would be sister to Jonas, Miriam, and most likely Peter.
Opinions? Also: If my niece is named Emma, could I use Emma as a middle name? And can I use the middle name of another niece (Faith), as a first name without upsetting anyone?

Lara is my favourite name. I think it's absolutely gorgeous. Funnily enough, although I've been a TR fan for years, Lara has only recently grown on me.
As for your other questions, I think both are perfectly fine. I would say it would only be a problem if you were using one of your young relative's first names as a first name for your own child.

Lara is a gorgeous name. I pronounce it as LAHR-ah rather than LAIR-uh though.
I don't think that it sounds trendy persay, but I can see it gaining in popularity.
I've considered using it as well, but I think it would be too similar to my sisters name Laurie (LAHR-ee), and be confused with Laura which I don't care for.
Lara & Miriam sound wonderful as sisters, and I like how Lara & Jonas sound together as well.
Personally I would steer away from using Emma & Faith. I dislike using the same name as another family member unless it's to honor them. Plus, your SIL may dislike it.

I like Laura a lot, but don't like the spelling Lara at all. I assume you want to pronounce Lara like Laura? Rather than rhyming it with Sarah?
People will just naturally assume it's Laura, and having to spell it all the time will get old fast.
I also have negative associations with Lara. There was this girl I went to school with named Lara. She wore lots of sleeveless tops and her armpits had a FOREST of red hair in them. She shaved her legs but not those, I wondered why, but it looked horrible. She had more hair under her arms than most men have on theirs. SHe also had terrible BO.
There's also Lara Logan on CBS news, whose accent is very annoying to me, even though I usually really like listening to British accents. Call me a nut. :)

I assume the Lara rhymes with Sarah because of the actress Lara Flynn Boyle; she was the first way I'd heard the name prn, so it stuck with me. Also, you know me and my phonetics; I'd instinctively prn Lara like Sarah anyway because of the lack of U.

Lara is pretty--even if the sound is a bit trendy, the name has history (and romance! Dr. Zhivago, yes!) and substance. And Lari is pretty much the cutest nickname ever. A good replacement for the unusable Miri. ;)
I think Lara has enough weight to hold her own with Miriam. They're each strong; they just express their strength in different sounds, y'know? :)
