Re: WDYTO my A-Z names?
Alethea and Abraham-- I feel like I should love Alethea, it's pretty much the epitome of an old lady name, but something about it throws me off. I think it maybe reminds me a little too much of "lethal", and it almost sounds like it's someone with a lisp saying Alicia with the four syllable pronunciation. Abraham I quite like, mainly due to the Bram Stoker association; I'm not sure why it wasn't on my long list. Bryony and Brent-- Bryony I love, though I go back and forth on Bryony vs. Briony, but it seems ridiculously common here and that puts me off. Brent is just kind of "eh" to me. It seems quite American jock-ish, which is the opposite to what I normally like in a name.Calanthia and Cade (I forgot about Calvin, actually, I like Calvin a little more than Cade)-- Calanthia is new to me! I really like it. Cade I'm not fond of, but Calvin is cute. Diana and Douglas-- Diana I find a little dull, Douglas I adore endlessly. I need to find a home for Douglas on my list of combinations, really. Eulalie and Evander-- I adore both of these. I'm happy to see someone else liking Eulalie. Flavia and Fletcher-- Flavia is very ballroom-dancer to me (I think there actually is one called Flavia based in here in the UK?). Fletcher has just never grown on me. Genevieve and Gideon-- Genevieve I like quite a bit, and I really love the Madeline association. Dote on Gideon. Hazel and Harry-- Hazel is really spunky with just a hint of 60s chic, love it. I'm tired of hearing Harry, but I'd love it otherwise. India and Iain (pronounced EYE-an, yes it happens, I knew someone who spelled it this way and pronounced it this way, I went on a date with him)-- India is a guilty pleasure of mine, as I'm not a fan of using "big" place names or the names of people for kiddos, as fond as I may be of the actual names (I mean, China and India, how cute). Not huge on Iain, regardless of pronunciation, as I find it a bit of a dad name. Jacinda and Jared-- I'm not a huge fan of Jacinda and her family, something about the sound of them is kind of icky to me and Jacinda seems dated, which is odd as it's never been a big name. I like Jared, not massively, but enough. Again, though, it's a bit jock-ish. Kerensa and Kenneth-- Adore Kerensa, it's so sweet. Kenneth is another dad name, though part of me wants to like it. Lucy and Lincoln-- Lucy is too common for me and I live near Lincoln in England, so I can't be dealing with it as a given name. Miranda and Maxwell-- Very fond of both. Miranda is kind of nymph-y to me, while still being clunky and a little old lady-ish. Maxwell is adorable. Natalie and Nathaniel-- I'd love Natalie if it weren't so popular for girls around my age - I went to school with a plethora of Natalies. Nathaniel is wonderful, I'd even say beautiful. Octavia and Obadiah-- Octavia is glorious and grand, though not amongst my very favourites. Obadiah I've never encountered before, but I think I like it. It reminds me of Ob-La-Di Ob-La-Da and both the name and the song title are fun to say. Priscilla and Patrick-- I had a pet, a hamster, named Priscilla, and once a name has gone pet for me it can never go back. I do like the name, though, and I love the association with the Queen of the Desert. Patrick... I don't know, I like it, but it's also kind of dull. Qiana and Quentin-- Qiana isn't my style, but I like it. I suppose it's kind of like Paisley, only a damn sight better. Quentin I love, it reminds me of my childhood.Rosaline and Rex-- I like Rosaline; it reminds me of the dialogue at the beginning of Romeo and Juliet, which I'm oddly fond of now I think about it. Rex is fabulous, though I consider it more of a guilty pleasure. Scarlett and Samuel-- Scarlett, Scarlett, Scarlett... I want to like it, I've even tried having it as my top name in the past, but I have a few issues with it and they've always won over. The main issues are its popularity, I think, and how much it reminds me of scarlet fever / scarlatina. Samuel I like, but it's much too overused for me personally. Tatiana and Thaddeus-- Love both, and I especially love the association with Tatiana Romanov, even if it's tragic. Unity and Ulysses (not all that fond of Unity, but the best of the girl U names)-- Unity seems very... religious to me. I'm not sure why, but I dislike it. Also maths. It reminds me of maths. Ulysses is definitely the best of the bunch with U names. Victoria and Vaughn-- I like Victoria. Vaughn has never sounded pleasant to me. Winter and Wesley-- Winter is an old, old favourite of mine and I still think it could make a cute, unexpected middle, or even first on the right person. I've never been fond of Wesley, but it may be slowly growing on me now. Xenia and Xavier-- Xenia is fabulous. I go back and forth on Xavier, but today I like it.Yvonne and Yale-- Yvonne is too dated for me. Yale doesn't sway me either way.Zavia and Zebulon-- I've not encountered Zavia before; I like how it looks, but it sounds identical to Xavier in my accent so I don't think I could go for it. I know (I think?) Zebulon comes from the Bible but it seems really space-age to me, like a character from a terrible story I would have been forced to read in class when I was much younger.
