I'd go with Irene. It's unusual, yet familiar, and extremely stylish, not too frilly, streamline, likeable, and easily shortened to Rene, Ree, Reenie. I'd just keep it as Irene, though. I had an Aunt Rene, and always thought Rene was pretty.
