names I'm thinking about
Replies
I like a lot of these.
Seth has long been a favorite. My husband only likes it for a girl though. So... even though I know it was used for both genders long (long!) ago, I can only see it for boys. I love it on boys though.
Shea - not used as much, a refreshing but simple choice.
Casper - I truly love this name. I really wish people would just forget about the ghost! It would be hard to live everyday being compared to that. However, such a handsome name.
Bruno - eh. Not my favorite. It screams henchman to me, probably because I have read too many foreign mysteries.
Edgar - Adore this. I can't eve describe how much I like this name. It's almost like a curmudgeonly old man, yet also very childlike and sweet. Great udal characteristics in a name. I just like it.
Hero - I like it, but prefer Bayani, which is Tagalog for "hero". A gutsy choice for parents though.
Mitchell, classic. I actually kinda like Mitch too.
Morten. Hmm, interesting, but I am not sure I like it. A little cooler than Horton though.
Aurora - always lovely, even though I trip over the pronunciation.
Baila - secretly adore this. I really do. If I could somehow convince myself that this matches Clarisse (it doesn't)... I would use this. It's just very pretty in both sound and spelling to me.
Juliet - core of classic. I just think this name is so elegant and pretty.
Kestrel - I like it. I am a fan of nature names so this works for me. It is a little clunkier than a lot of nature names, but I find that to be endearing.
Lesley - I like it. Prefer Leslie spelling. I have an Uncle with this name, so it's hard to imagine using it on a girl myself. I do think it has an appealing sound though.

From your list, the names I really like are...
Seth - I do not get the consistent Seth hate here at BtN; for me, the name is easy to say, warm, friendly and handsome, though I should mention I used to know a devoted family man by the name who has those qualities; I'm not a fan of the actor mentioned either, but he doesn't ruin the name for me
Casper
Mitchell
Juliet
I think most of the others are okay as names, though they don't appeal to me, personally, except Shea, Hero, Morten and Kestrel on a girl which I dislike.
As far as using names from other cultures for an English child goes, I think it's a case by case basis. Some "foreign/exotic" names happen to sound similar to commonly-used English names or some become well-known because of pop culture/historical figures, etc., so don't feel so "foreign". For me, an English Akiko without familial ties to Japan would seem a bit of an odd choice (maybe big Anime fans). Alessio might strike me as a bit odd too, but Lorenzo wouldn't.

Seth - I really dislike Seth, it sounds week to me and reminds me of Seth Green who I find annoying. I really don't get the appeal of Seth, sorry
Shea - I used to dislike it, but since meeting one (he's 8) I now she it as okay
Casper - nms, though I would never consider using it as i'm quite pale and if a child took after me there would be sure to be casper the friendly ghost jokes
Edgar - I love Edgar, it's so old England and handsome. It's on my favourite list. I love the combo Edgar Ivor
Bruno - I view this as a dog name, which I know is weird because one of my favourite names is Rufus and I don't see that as a dog name at all
Hero - It just doesn't seem like a name to me, and I imagine would be a lot to live up to
Mitchell - I like Mitchell, I know several of varying ages (I properly know about 7). I like the nn Mitch
Morten - it sounds ugly to me
Aurora - I like it. I know one little girl (aged 5) who goes by Rora which is cute
Baila - dislike
Juliet - pretty and classical. I don't get why its not more popular
Kestrel - I like it, but its not a name I would ever use
Lesley - is incredibly dated to me
Rosabella - a bit too frilly. I prefer Rosabel
Soraya - dislike alot
Shea - I used to dislike it, but since meeting one (he's 8) I now she it as okay

What about Seth Green is so annoying? I can't stand him.
I know, I think I just don't get his humour at all.
I was just thinking we are very on the same wave length with these names lol :)

Something about his face annoys me to no end. Have you seen the Italian Job remake with him in it? I die a little bit every time he's on the screen!
Seth - I've always and wil always hate Seth. It makes me think of Seth Green who irritates me for no reason. I also know a Seth who's obsessed with ICP so, no dice.
Shea - Butter
Casper - The Friendly Ghost! I like Casimir more for that Cas- beginning.
Edgar - Just a creepy name to me. Have ever seen Men in Black? It makes me think of the alien dead guy every time.
Bruno - Bruno Mars is all I think of. It'd make a good dog name.
Hero - Uuuuugh,I hate it. It's in the same vein of naming your kid Reign, or Saint.
Mitchell - It's okay. My sister's dog was named this though, so bias.
Morten - Morten the Mortician.
Aurora - Trying too hard, although I like Rory a great deal more. But it's one of those frilly names that makes me think of poorly written fanfics and Mary Sues. Anastasia Steele could have very easily been Aurora.
Baila - It's not bad, but it doesn't roll off the tongue for me.
Juliet - Definitely worse, but not my favorite either.
Kestrel - I love bird names so this appeals to me on some level. I'm not crazy about it but it's one of those names I think would make for an awesome middle name.
Lesley - I don't like Leslie very much and I really don't like Lesley spelling. It's dated and although I love the character Leslie Knope, I can't get behind her name.
