[Opinions] Vera.
I been thinking a lot about this name lately. The only real drawback I am finding is that it is a bit stuffy sounding. Wdyt? Is Vera still to dusty to bring back?

I like it, but then, it's not an "old lady's name" where I'm from.

No! Its incredibly beautiful, there is something very simple and clean and elegant to it that I love

Vera Brogan
Vera Yvonne
Vera Maude
Vera Pearl
Vera Pelmira
Vera Joy
Vera Nadine
Vera Nancy
Vera LydiaVera Georgette could work. [George is a male MN option]

:-PFor what it's worth, I really love Vera Diana, although your entire list is very nice. And I admire that you're working family names in. I aim to, but I don't like very many and that gets in the way sometimes, lol.

I love Vera and I don't find it stuffy at all. It's beautiful.

I agree with you! It also sounds very old. I prefer the fresher alternative, Verity.

I like Vera a lot, and I've never thought of it as stuffy because it makes me think of Vera Wang, (pretty automatically actually, because I've never heard it used anywhere else).

How are you pronouncing it?I really like VER-a, but not VEER-ah. I don't think its stuffy at all. It's really cute.

I have only ever heard it as VEER-ah. And VER-a with my accent just doesn't sound right.

The English pronunciation is "VEER-uh." The Russians pronounce it, "VYEHR-uh." Who pronounces it, "VEH-ruh?" I've never heard that. (For what it's worth, I'm in the U.S. and was raised by English / Irish parents and a heavy dose of PBS / BBC.)I'm not trying to be snotty. I'm really interested because mafiosa has heard the same pronunciation as you.

In Croatia Vera is 'VEH-rah' and Vjera is 'VYEH-rah'.

I say VEH-ruh. Although I think that's just an accent thing, because I tried saying VEER-uh and I felt like I was putting on a really phony American accent. Plus I speak too fast anyway. (I'm from New Zealand)

Same here.VE-rah is really nice, VEE-rah sounds pretty ugly to me.

I don't know that it was ever majorly "in", so there's nothing to bring it back to... It's just not that common, but it's a decent name and usable.

Aw, Vera was my grandmother's name. So I'm biased. But I really think it's a lovely name and definitely ready for a comeback. If Clementine, Hazel and Ava can come back, why not Vera too?Mns can be tricky. Vera is such a power-house of a name. It's hard to find a mn that can stand up next to it. Have you got any in mind?

Yeah, my family is big on name sakes. So if I ever were to use the name she would most likely end up either Vera Jade, Vera Diana, or Vera Nadene.
