[Opinions] Alice
I have an inkling that this magnificent name may see an increase in popularity after the latest extension to 'Alice in Wonderland' is released this March. If it's possible, I believe this is my favorite name. My great grandmother was an Alice, and we were close. When I was little she would joke and say that she was the Alice from the book and movie. Apparently her mother had read the book for the first time shortly before she was born. I have a cousin that was named in honor of my g-grandma, I often tell her she is my 'favorite cousin' because we've always gotten along so well. So the name is very important to me.I once mentioned it to a friend. And she commented "Alice is too beautiful to be a name." I think the world needs a few more Alice's.Comments, opinions?

It's been my number one girls' name for ages too. It's historical enough to satisfy me, and it's short and pretty without being at all frilly or cutesy. Also, it looks great with our surname. I do worry, with so many people on here liking it, that it'll become so popular that I'll go off it - but I just checked and it's actually dropped three places in the last UK chart. Hooray!edited to add: For some inexplicable reason, Alyssa still seems to be popular in the US. So maybe while that's still in the charts, Alice is safe for a while.

I've always loved it; couldn't fit it in for a daughter, but I had a beautiful Alice cat who lived to be 20. It has a calm sparkle to it that most names miss, like sunlight on clear water. Wonderful!

It's my boyfriend's favorite name, and he's convinced we're naming our first daughter that. :P I don't know about first... maybe second or third, lol. But it is really pretty and I'm glad he at least has good taste in names. I just hope it doesn't jump too much in popularity - I like where it's at right now!

I like Alice a lot - it has a soft sound to it that's really appealing to me. And while I normally don't like kre8tive spellings, I really love the medieval variant Alys.

I think Alice is a wonderful name. I love how light and simple and clean it is, and I also love how old of a name it is. It is surprising that it isn't more common, and I think it definitely seems like a name that could get more popular.

Aw, Alice Mary was my grandmother's name. So it's very close to my heart as well. My grandfather's nn for her was Alsie.Growing up I used to wonder why Alice wasn't more popular. It's so delicate and sweet. Indeed the world needs more Alices.

I don't think Alice will get an upsurge in popularity because of the movie. Alice in Wonderland is a very common children's book, and most people are familiar with it whether they have read it or not. I think Alice falls into the same category as Violet, Jane and Eleanor: names that used to sound too grandma-ish or old lady for a generation or two ahead of people having babies today, but now sound fresh and youthful. Alice is classic and timeless, but isn't as ubiquitous as K/Catherine, Grace and Elizabeth.

It's very nice, and it's one of those names that won't be ruined if it becomes overused. I wouldn't mind one bit if there would be a few more Alice's. It is an extremely elegant and beautiful name. Go for it.[edit] And I always forget the Twilight association for some reason. :/

I really like Alice! I think it's very cute and classic!
And if it's such a important name to you, I'd say go ahead and use it and don't care about Alice in the Wonderland, Twilight etc..
