Hi !!!

WDYTO Carlisle (boy)?

I think that's very aristocratic, calm, bright, refined and British.

The first time that I've heard it was in Twilight (2005) and still has a positive vibe as the character has the same personality of the name.

Then I found it in many films and Tv series often as surname.

It could be a perfect first name for a Lord in my opinion.

Not a fan, it sounds like a surname to me. To each their own. At least you can shorten it to Carl or Lisle.

Well, I think Carl's a bit rough, and Lyle's too smooth, while Carlisle's refined but down-to-earth...or preppy but likable.

Ditto. It seems like what I would have imagined an upperclass British person to be named when I was a child. But it's an American imagining of Britishness, at least in my case.

I think it's possible in the UK, but only if you're a member of the nobility (!) and it's your title, not your actual given name. You could have been named Frederick George Augustus, but if your title is the Duke or Earl or Marquess or Whatever of Carlisle, then your friends and family would call you Carlisle. Like Prince Charles: no doubt some people do call him Charles, but his personal friends apparently call him Wales, which sounds depressing;y petulant to those of us outside the charmed circle!

I like it. There is a pleasant ring to it, and I agree that it has a calm vibe. Carlisle was one of the more like able characters in Twilight, so it doesn’t negatively impact the name.

I'm neutral towards it. Like a name thats just there. Unfortunately now many people will strongly associate it with yeah, the twlight series /: I never read the series myself but I know they have to be better than the dreaded films and if I somehow can manage to picture Bella as somebody other than Kristen Stewart and her wooden performances. *shivers*
I agree that it sounds very aristocratic and British.
