[Opinions] Cassandra or Alexandra?
Which name do you like the best, Cassandra or Alexandra? I can't decide. Cassandra "Cassie" after my mom Catherine "Cathy"? Or...Alexandra for the nickname Alex and because it's more culturally diverse?"You're a firework. Show your obstacles your brightest colors."-MeRate my name lists too!

Both of these names are lovely. I pick Cassandra.
Alexandra is great, but has been over used starting in the 80s/90s/2000s/2010s. There even more Alexes due to Alexander, Alexis, Alexandria, Alexa, etc. It's still a great name, but you hear it a lot.
Cassandra is great. It's not as much overused. I think the connection your mom is sweet. I personally like the connection to Jane Austen as her sister was Cassandra.

I much prefer Alexandra to Cassandra. I’ve never liked the name Cassandra or the nn Cassie for that matter, just can’t warm to either name. Alexandra I’ve never minded at all, though I prefer Lexi as a nn.

Alexandra for sure.1. She has the perfect gender-neutral option of Alex. (Which in my opinion at least, is the #1 legitimate unisex name)
2. It’s elegant, and pretty. The meaning is also cool.
3. There’s also more interesting and unique nicknames like Xandra, Andra, Sandra, Drina, Lexine, and even more. Meanwhile Cassandra’s meaning doesn’t make sense to me, all you have is a nickname Cassie, and the story with Apollo is quite depressing.Oh, and all I can think of Casserole.

I much prefer Cassandra. I'm tired of Alexandra and don't much like Alex for a girl.

Cassandra, I can't stand Alexandra.Alexandra is 80s/90s dated and because Alexandra, Alexander, Alexis and Alexa as well as Alexandria were in the top 100 there are way too many Alex-people around.Cassandra is much much better. This is just me, but personally I don't really see how Cassandra honors a Catherine. No offense, just my opinion. Not even with the nicknames.

Both are lovely. I personally favour Alexandra more, although Alex is my least favourite of its many nicknames. For you I’d go with Cassandra though, because of the personal family connection it has for you. The connection is a bit tenuous, but as long as you know it’s to honour your mom, that’s all that matters.

CassandraI don't think Cassandra honours Catherine, though, and I dislike Alex.

Well, my mom's grandfather called her Cassie as a child for a nickname. He was hard of hearing and sadly never learned her real name. Plus, Cassie sounds very similar to Cathy. Special to my mom and sounds similar. A gentle nod of honoring and a name I like.

Definitely Alexandra. I've never been too fond of Cassandra, but I love the nickname Cassie. So yea.

I think Alexandra is very pretty. It's a name I really like in theory. But I hate the nickname Alex, especially for a girl, which is why I would never use Alexandra in real life.
I'm not a fan of Cassandra but Cassie is better than Alex so if the plan is to always use the nickname I would personally go with Cassandra nn Cassie.

They’re both great names and both would be a great choice, but I prefer Alexandra. It’s classical and well known, and aside from Alex it has many nicknames: Lexi, Andi, Andra, Alexa, Ally and more. Both are great names though.

Alexandra has more nn potential, and Cassandra has a very sad literary/mythological history. Right now, I would avoid both.
