I prefer legally Tessa then "Tess" for short. I dislike Theresa, & tolerate Terez but Tess feels more like a stretch for Terez.

Tess is a great name. Theodosia, Teresa or Therese or any variant spelling, Contessa. I prefer Tess to Tessa 100%.

I much prefer Tessa

Something about Tess grates me. She's young and hip but in a self-aware way which somehow makes her abrasive. Naturally I cannot choose Theresa as that would make me conventional, so Tess's full name will be Meritites!

I attended a wedding once, I worked with the groom and had only met the bride briefly, but I had only heard her referred to as Tess by her partner. At the alter, the vicar revealed her name was Esther Rachel. Apparently there were two Esther's in her class and five Rachel's, so to distinguish herself she chose Tess rather than Ess or Essie.Tess could also work for:
Theodosia?
Tessa
Tesni
Contessa
Teresa
Teresinha
Thessaly

Yeah, I was thinking Estera or Esther "Tess" isn't really more of a stretch than Theresa "Tess".

I like it as a nickname for Hortense and Contessa. I prefer Tessa and Tessie, though.

It's ok. Prefer Tessa instead. I don't really know of any names other than Tessa that it could be a nickname for. It doesn't work for Teresa.

I absolutely adore Tess, but am dissatisfied with the full names. Tessa was a mean girl from school and Theresa just gives me nun vibes. I'm going to keep an eye on this thread to see if someone has something better.

I love Tessa and would use it IRL. Tess is a good nn for Tessa, if anyone feels that it needs one. I think it's a convenient size and sound and doesn't require shortening.I would not use Tess as an independent name. Tessa pleases me much more.
