--- Sweetheart [17] Countess Theodosia Parisa MarkwellLady Callista, the Castletown matriarch, celebrated her 80th birthday without much pomp. Everyone she loved had left her. The deaths of her husband, son, and two grandsons all took their toll on her. She had been worn mourning garb so often that there seemed little point in keeping any of her usual clothes.Middle age is not treating Lord Cassian well either. He misses his sons, his wives, and his brother, and the wound where his eye used to be still causes him acute, deliberating headaches. Mostly, he has devoted himself to securing an education for Silas and Jocasta.Xanthe, after her divorce, moved to the colonies, where no-one knew her name. She married a well-off general, who did not understand why his wife once picked up a newspaper, read about some unfortunate seaman dying bravely in battle and his brother drinking himself to death within weeks, and burst into tears.Ever since his romance with Xanthe fizzled out and Orlando died, Lord Gervase Antonin has led a subdued, solitary life. He still visits Clementine often, and her children like him as well. Other than that, he devotes most of his time to caring for his estate and writing his memoirs, where he describes all he regrets not having done. The Honourable Silas Castletown spent his years since being legitimized in boarding schools – quite the change of pace from the town house he lived in with his mother and sister, the monotony interrupted only by occasional, furtive visits from his father. There are rumours. His fellow students admire him as stalwart, hard-working, and mostly kind. They know not to mention his mother if they don't want a broken nose.Jocasta, despite all the money poured into the pursuit of educating and polishing, always seemed a bit simple – not quite there. Cassian was rather disappointed, remembering the uncontested talents of Lysander and Iñigo, but Silas will not allow him to speak one ill word against his sister. He is gutted when she dies at the age of 11 of an undiagnosed heart condition.Clementine's château is a hub for diplomacy and patronage of the arts hosts. She is among the most admired women in Franconia, renowned for her intelligence, tact, and generosity. She dotes on her children, and tries to maintain their pristine reputation. She ought not, perhaps, have worried so much about Calliope. Her career in the Frankfort Opera has proved tremendously successful, critics and audiences worldwide enamoured with her sonorous, birdsong soprano. The two conspicuously long breaks in her career have, however, given rise to rumours. Her two daughters, sired by a world-famous baritone, will soon be legitimized. Constantin's wife has finally kicked the bucket, so the happy couple have announced their engagement.Helwise has settled well into married life. While not as fashionable or sparkling as other diplomat's wives, she is a warm, comforting presence, and certainly better educated than most other women of her position. She exchanges warm correspondence with her mother and brother, and more sporadic with her sister Calliope. Some accuse her of jealousy, but Helwise is perfectly satisfied with her dole in life. That might change if she ever finds out about Henry's mistress, who shares her name.Randolph has grown into an ambitious young man, who is well-liked by all his peers. While Calliope and Helwise have their differences, they do not differ at all when it comes to how much they love their brother. He wishes, terribly, to follow in his father's footsteps and join the army. His mother has strictly forbidden even mentioning the matter. Randolph rolls his eyes then, and writes another letter to the younger sister of one of his chums from school: a countess that he is head-over-heels in love with. 🕊️❣️🌻💌🌻❣️🕊️masculine list: https://www.behindthename.com/pnl/191050/124079
