Help[Opinions] Galatea and Atalanta.
I really like both, overly-long though they might be. ;) What do you think of them? Galatea, I would pronunce gaa-luh-TAY-uh (AA as in "attic"), and Atalanta, I would say at-uh-LAN-tuh--just so we're all on the same page.
Any middle name ideas would be welcome, too. :)

Galatea........reminds me of the galaxy but if u luv it allot, then go w/ it
i really like atalanta, though. it reminds me of the greek story! its about a grl who is the fastest person on earth.

I really like Galatea, and Atalanta is okay, too. After reading the story of Atalanta about fifty times in Latin, though, I find its sound a little
anoying. Plus, it's really close to Atlanta, which would be a lousy name.

I really like Galatea. It's pretty-sounding. Where did you find it? It's too foofy for me to consider it as a fn. It would be nice for someone else's child, though.
As for Atalanta, I know it's a legit name and everything, but being from Atlanta, I can't get past that association. It's not a nice city by any means, and I think any name on a child that would make me think of that city of all cities is quite unfortunate. Even the sound to me isn't that appealing. It sounds like someone elaborating the name of the city, and I have known some people to add in that extra syllable & pronounce Atlanta and Atalanta the same (they obviously weren't from the city, haha, everyone who lives there seems to say "Adlanna").

Galatea is...

That's my sticking point with Atlanta, too. I try and think of the good--without it, there'd be no REM!--but it's tough sometimes. :( I'm thinking it'd be best as a middle name.
In fact, I think they'd both be better as middle names, but I like coming up with combos both ways. I mean, how cool would it be to meet John Ray and Galatea? Totally cool, I'm telling you. ;)

Ohhh, yes! I remember that myth. It's a very nice story. =)

Atalanta is GREAT! I am SO into names that remind me of Greek, Roman, and Egyptian Gods and Goddess!
I think Atalanta Thea is cute. I also like Atalanta Cleo and Atalanta Drucilla!

Oh, Atalanta Cleo is fabulous. I adore Cleo--I think it's really smart and retro, you know? Cleo Galatea would be great, too.
I saw your post of ancient names, and you did have quite a few that I like a lot--Aglaia, for one. :D But for the most part, I'm not particularly fascinated specifically by ancient names. The legends of Galatea and Atalanta are two I really love, is all. :)

Galatea Ruby would be very nice--my youngest sister is a Ruby, and I'd love to honour her.
