I much prefer Eliza. It's classic, strong, feminine and will stand the test of time. Miranda doesn't sound as pretty to me.

Miranda, because it's beautiful, elegant and has a wonderful meaning. I also love the Shakespeare reference. I've never cared for Eliza (the long i sound).

Definitely MirandaI love Miranda. It looks beautiful, it sounds beautiful, and I love the nicknames Mira and Miri.Eliza really annoys me for some reason. It's both very hick and very pretentious and snobby at the same time. I think of both a country girl with no manners and a stuck-up, nasty girl who thinks she's better than everyone else because her parents are rich.

Ditto on Eliza, completely.

MirandaI've never liked Eliza and it's probably my least favorite form of Elizabeth.

I like both but I'll say Miranda, just because Eliza is a bit nickname-y (and Elizabeth is so dull, IMO) and also has a somewhat harsh sound.

Definitly Eliza. I always have found Miranda ugly.

Eliza - It's a beautiful and classic name.I've never liked Miranda...just something about the sound and overall *feel* of the name is unappealing to me.

Eliza. Hands down.So much prettier. So many good connotations. Elegant sound. Very lovely name. Classic, feminine, and beautiful!

MirandaI like Miranda. I find it aesthetically appealing and a name that's suited to both a child or an adult. It has a number of nickname possibilities, if that's someone's style, and it's not wildly popular but still not unusual, either. Eliza is too something for me. Too yuppie, maybe. It strikes me as a name parents would choose to go a sibling Sebastian, and the idea of both together kind of makes my skin crawl. Its popularity on the boards reminds me of things like Wilhelmina and Maude--I wonder if people here like it because they're caught up in a board trend that leans toward it, or if it would have appeal to them otherwise. I've always thought it was quite ugly; the long "i" sound puts me off, among other things.

Wilhelmina and Maude both appealed to me long before I came here--just to settle the question in my case. ;)I prefer Miranda to Eliza, too, though I don't like either. I have really bad associations with both, but in the end, the associations with Eliza are worse, so Miranda it is.Array

Your naming style is so your own that I wouldn't bother suspecting the origin of any of your likes. :-) Can't exactly picture you buying into a trend for the trend's sake!

Second this.Miranda seems beautiful, simple, timeless and classic, while Eliza is just...blah. The sound is off, etc.

I love both. Eliza never fails to remind me of Eliza Dolittle, and Miranda is so beautifully Shakespearean, not to mention I have never actually met a Miranda. I think today, I would use Miranda. But I wouldn't mind seeing either.

Eliza; way more classic, respectable, and appealing.

How is Miranda less respectable?I'm not getting that. Elaborate?

Eliza. I don't like Miranda at all. I can't really put my finger on why. It sort of conjures up the image of an annoying TV presenterS xx

Eliza because it's just way more aesthetically pleasing.

Miranda. I've just never liked Eliza.

ElizaTo be honest I don't really like either. I do like the name Elizabeth which is why I prefer Eliza to Miranda.
