Names for Nell
Tell me all the names you can think of that contain nel or nell in them. The only ones I can think of are Penelope and Prunella.Just so you know why, I'm asking because I've always adored Nell, it may be my absolute favorite nn ever so I'm looking for a good name that Nell can be used for. I know Nell is traditionally a nn for Eleanor but it has never felt natural to me.

My favorite options are Peronel and Noelle, but I'd use Nelle on its own :)Also maybe, Aniela ("ahn-YeH-la") or danielle. cornelia would be more of a stretch but I can see it working fine.

Sorry for any repeats:Penelope
Prunella
Ornella
Anneliese / Annelie
Nella
Danielle / Daniela / Daniella (not quite "nel," but close enough)
Peronel
Hannelore
Cornelia (I know the sound of the vowel is different, but traditionally Nell is a nn)
Antonella
Fenella
Anselma (if you don't mind overlooking a consonant in the way)
Angela / Angelica:-)

It's a stretch, but you could always pair an N- first name with an El- middle name, and call her Nell. Not much different than using CJ or something.Norah Elisabeth
Nicolette Elle
Nina Ellery
Naomi Ellen
etc.Also, Noelle/Noella "Nell" could work.

I worked at a school where one of the students went by Nell; her first name was Helen.I really like Nella, but that seems way obvious and kind of like...why bother with a nickname there at all? I think my preferred full first name for a Nell would probably be Cornelia, though.

I'm sure others can come up with Nell names for you (I see someone mentioned Fenella down there... I love Fenella!), but just wanted to say that I love the idea of Nell as a nn for an El- name. I think the etymology is really really sweet. Same reason I'd use Nan as a nn for Anne!

Did you know you can do custom searches? Copy this link (including second asterisk at the end) to see all the names containing "nel": http://www.behindthename.com/names/search.php?nmd=n&terms=*nel*I think Antonella or Fenella would be nice.

Thanks I keep forgetting that. I don't think when I first starting using this site that it had that feature but maybe it did, either way I always forget that it is there.
