Dovlin? Dovelyn?
We recently found out we are expecting our 3rd. The name will definitely start with a D since we all have D names. Cheesy I know but it's the way it worked out so I'm trying to embrace it :p The problem is the only D name for a girl that I really like is Delilah. However my kids attend a catholic school so I think that puts it out of the running because of association. In my family tree there is the name Dovlin. Next to Delilah it's the only name that's jumping out at me right now. My hubby's not sure about it...for some reason he thinks it sounds like a stripper name. He also thinks it looks too masculine spelled Dovlin and likes Dovelyn better.
What are your opinions? Thanks

Honestly, I much prefer Delilah over both of these; Delilah is one of my favorite names, and my first thought of it is "Hey There Delilah" -- not the biblial character (though I'm not Christian, so...)
That said debtween Dovlin and Dovelyn, I think I prefer Dovelyn since it looks more feminine and it reminds me of "Dove" and "Evelyn"; that said, however... kids will find a way to make fun of someone's name, no matter what.

I thought of the song, too. I went to church as a kid, and I do remember the story, but don't feel like it's one that they talk about as much as Noah, Abraham and Isaac, Adam and Eve, and Jesus's birth, miracles, death and resurrection. You could use Lilah as a nn.
Since -lyn has been fairly common for girls, Dovelyn would fit in better than Dovlin. There's an actress named Dov Cameron on one of Disney's new shows, so if you wanted to split it and go Dove Lynn like someone suggested, that would be fine, too.

Congratulations ^_^
Dovelyn does look more feminine. It's okay but I'm not super keen on it :/ What about just Dove? Dove with Lynn as a middle name?
Did you try names like Dahlia and Delia? They're like Delilah if the association is bad for you but you like the sound.
Other D names (just for fun!) :)
Daphne
Daisy
Diana / Diane
Dale
Dara
Dareia
Dawn
Demeter
Deryn
Devi
Devon
Dilan / Dylan
Dinah (one of the few D girls names I actually like!)
Dominique
Drina

Dovlin does look quite masculine, like some strange alternative spelling of Devlin or Dublin. Dovelyn is just Dove with Lyn tacked on the end to make look like a real name, to my eyes it looks tryndy and more more like a stripper name the Dovlin. No offense.
I think Delilah is a lovely name, yes she betrayed Sampson, but Eve broke the one law God have her and Adam and brought sin and death to all humans, yet people still use her name and Adam's. If you really don't want to use Delilah then how about something similar like Delia, Dalia, Dahlia or Della?
Other d names for girls:
Darcy
Daniella
Danielle
Dara
Darla
Davida
Davina
Daisy
Dakota
Dulcie

I'm not normally a fan of constructed names, but I really like Dovelyn. It is soft and sweet and whimsical. I'd go for it!
Dovlin/Dovelyn reminds me of the Irish pronunciation of Dublin, too.

Agree with your husband, I like Dovelyn best.
Deirdre?
Dominique (quite popular where I live)
Damarys
Dolina
Dovelyn is very good, especially as it's a family name, adjusted a tiny bit.

Dovlin / Dovelyn is horrible imo, sorry! What about Daphne, Daisy, Della, Daria, Danielle, Daniella, Demelza, Dorcas or Darla?
