Any ideas for a blue-eyed baby girl?
I need a name for my character. She is named at birth and by the nurses. The nurses were there throughout the complicated pregnancy and while I don't want a name meaning 'survivor' I do want something special. Like I was giving the idea that the nurses would call her Gem and then the person would be taking care of her comes and take the nickname and names her say Gemma. And while I like the nickname I don't love Gemma, I prefer Jemma and while Im not naming her like she's my baby, I can't write a story if I don't love the name I chose. So, if you have ideas for what the nurses would call her for a nickname or have a name they flat out give her. Please tell me! (And ASAP) Thanks in advance :)

I realise that this comment may appear unduly harsh, but you are just one of the many people who come here for help with naming a fictional character. And it always seems strange to me that inventing a whole story is that much easier than naming one character. Are you sure that your story is going to work? I for one can name imaginary babies for weeks on end, so I wonder if your inability to find a name for your character could perhaps be a symptom of a larger problem with the story as a whole.

I have tons of names in my head but I can't decide on one. You want to know because I'm in a lot of pain because I'm dealing with a lot of crap you don't understand and you will never understand. I have OCD and several other things I'm not gonna list. Me finally choosing a name feels like the biggest accomplishment in the world. Do you know how sad that is? I feel pathetic. Writing is the only thing I can do because I can barely get out of bed. I can't concertante. I can't even talk to my friends. They're actually not even my friends because I haven't really done anything with them in TWO YEARS!
Does it sound like I'm mad? Maybe a little, but I can't help it when I freak out about something not being perfect. And as for baby names, well I haven't been around people (or at school) for two years, so I don't know names. Also, I don't remember names because I don't remember anything because I fell and lost all of my memory. Oh and let's not forget, I'm just a fourteen-year-old girl!

Just an update.
Thanks for the ideas. I like Jade and I like as Star as a nickname but I can't go too much based on eye color because as I just realized when you're really premature you can't open up you're eyes and even than your eye color doesn't settle in. Anyway, thanks for all your guys help.

I was going to say, I thought all newborns had blue eyes? If you aren't stuck on the whole blue eyes thing, maybe green? I think june bugs are green which would be a cute nickname for Juniper.

Celeste- "sky, heavenly"
Sapphira- sapphire
Lazul- from the stone Lapis lazuli
Astara- "star" and perhaps renamed Astrid

Maris- "of the sea," Stella Maris means "star of the sea"If you want a name that perhaps references a particular shade of blue, some specific blues include Cerulean, Catalina, Sapphire, Carolina, Cyan, Alice, etc...Vivian- "alive" since she is lucky to be alive
Valentine- Valens means "strong, vigourous, healthy" in Latin.

If you like Gem but not Gemma, what about the nurses call her Gem and then the person who takes care of her calls her Jemima?Maybe Sky, and then Skylar?
Jem and then Jewel?
Jem and then Juliet? More of a stretch that one, though. If the nurses called her Jay, as in Blue Jay, then she could be give any name that starts with J. If one of the nurses was Indian, maybe Nila? (Sanskrit for dark blue).Sini - Blue in Finnish
Cyan - kind of greenish blue
Azure
Sapphire nn SaffyCould they call her just Blue? If the baby was a boy it'd tie nicely in with "little boy lost, little boy blue" but I don't know what the person caring for her would then call her. Belle?
