I like Esther a lot. It isn't pretty, but it's one of those names that doesn't have to be; it has enough personality to make up for the lack of conventional prettiness.
It doesn't sound weird in my accent, as far as I know. :/

What is conventional prettiness? Utterly subjective on all accounts.
I am going to go out on a limb, and assume your talking about names like Sophia, Amelia, Olivia, and Isabella. Flimsy and vapid.

Esther is extremely pretty, even by classic standards. I love a capital E (red) followed by a lowercase s (sage).
