Shep Shep Sheppity Shep
I like Shep. We've discussed Shepherd and Sheppard on here before and there tends to be not much love. But I just think Shep is such a cute nickname. Anybody have any other ideas of a full name from which to get Shep as a nickname? All I can come up with is Bishop and I'm not a fan of that at all.Anybody got anything better?Three boys nappin', one mama namenerdin'

Another thoughtSebastian nn Shep?A bit of a stretch but since Seb is already an established NN and there's a bit of a "sh/ch" in the name it could maybe work. Or at least maybe "Sheb"

I like it.

Sorry, but Shep is a dogs name.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shep_%28British_dog%29I can't even consider it as a name for a human, or to think of suitable names to go with it.

slightly off topic but... Shepherd as in the main character of the game Mass Effect? (That was the first thing I thought of)Seconding the first name, middle name combination thing though

I kind of like Shepherd. Only with this spelling though. Shep sounds a bit strange, like someone trying to say Sep/Seb.

Shepley? Shepford? Sheppington?Sorry, can't think of anything. :/I think Shep sounds like something a celebrity would name their kid.

I suppose if the nickname Shep is already out-there, what's to stop me from making up a name? LOL
Shepley is awesome in a puppy sort of way.
How about Sheppoway? Shepperty? Sheperson? Sheplan? Shepson? Sheppo? Shepton?

Aww Sheppo and Shepson! Teddy bearrrrs.

It's just too canine for me to take seriously. For a German Shepherd it'd be fine; maybe also for a Border Collie. But I'd expect to see a human Shep sleeping in a basket or balancing a biscuit on his nose.

I can't think of anything but Sheppard and Shepherd, but I agree with you. Shep is cute.

How about a name that means "shepherd" or something similarly pastoral?
BtN has these names with that meaning: http://www.behindthename.com/names/meaning/shepherd
Otherwise, I reckon Joseph is the most plausible choice.

Cool idea with the meaning. None of those few names are grabbing my attention, though.

I love Shepherd and Shep. The only other way I can see it working as a NN is maybe a contraction of a first and middle name like, Sean Paul, or Shane Peter or something of the like.

True, I do enjoy a first name middle name pairing to make nicknames. So that would be up my alley.
Also, a name that ends in sh? Joash Paul nn Shep?

Joseph could work, in a bassackwards sort of way.
Failing that, Jehoshaphat :D

Good call. New_Chloe similarly suggested Stephen nn Shep. Both good options.

On that note Giuseppe "Shep" makes good sense. But Giuseppe may be a hard sell

Oooo. I'd never use it, but that is brilliant!!

I like Shep too. It's rugged yet cuddly (like a dog, yes). It strikes me as a name that could be used as a nickname for anything - the way Sunny/Sonny could. Or you could stick it in the middle and still use Shep. Stephen "Shep" could be cute!

Stephen nn Shep is cute. Similarly, someone suggested Joseph nn Shep.

I think Shepherd is VERY appealing, actually. I wouldn't use it myself, but it gives me a very good feeling.

Yeah, I don't mind Shepherd at all.

Shepard/Shepherd is pretty bad, but Shep is worse. It's what somebody with not much imagination would call a sheepdog.

Aw, a sheepdog. That makes it even better!
